If you are literally gonna be destroying cites with villains there has to be some of that.

As far as disaster/end of the world flicks one of the most tense and terrifying things I remember seeing was how Spielberg handled War Of The Worlds. What I thought was really crazy was how he could shown the horror within a secluded area or just go full on with people being taken out one by one.
