The Avengers The Captain America/Chris Evans Thread

SlackBrian, that's kind of my point. These "focus groups" don't reflect reality and the Hollywood suits are oversensitive about things like this.

At the end of the day, THE FIRST AVENGER was a silly and unnecessary subtitle.

To me Captain America as a character rises above petty political discourse and he represents that part of America we all love and want to believe in. He's a character that is read and beloved not just in the USA but around the world. His ideals are universal, not just American.

How do you think the majority of American would react to a hero called Commander Soviet. You have to remember CA is a Nationalistic hero. He will only be as popular around the world as the Country he represents. If they rolled out CA during the Bush admin his world box office would have tanked but Obama is relativity popular right now. Obama's baggage didn't drag CA down. As long as foreign people don't currently hate the country the Nationalistic Character wont be drug down by all the bag and bad press of the country.

Proof positive of how much Whedon understands iconic Marvel moments ....

^That's some great pics, and I love the way Joss is handling it.

But if you're talking truly "iconic," that scene would feature a boatload of Eskimos and Namor. :D

I love that shot of Cap. Glad they actually filmed that.

I was concerned that they might just verbally explain it instead of actually showing it.
Me too. I was okay with just a verbal mention, but seeing this shot makes me happy.
Loving the handheld defroster.

I think they should've had this scene in TFA, but I'm glad that we get to see it from The Avengers.

Tony was right about Steve having the most skintight suit. This gif is hypnotic, and so is dat ass. :awesome:

We actually get to see Cap being defrosted? Nice! Didn't see that coming.

I wonder what Steve was doing over there, lol.

I watched Immortals again last night and I was thinking, I'd love to see Cap fight as fluidly as Theseus and the Gods in the "God vs Titans" fight at the end of the movie.

I'm just curious, how would everyone here feel if they did have Steve's next solo adventure be about him trying to find more heroes to recruit for the next roster of the Avengers? (It was one of the rumors I remember hearing from someone here) Would you guys feel that it would borderline on following Iron Man 2's path where it feels like the sequel to a titular character is more of a side step to the next Avengers film?

To that end, I'm still not convinced there *will* be a solo Cap sequel. So far, nothing has been announced about any plans to develop a CATFA 2. I'm starting to think that the strategy is to focus on Cap as the leader of the Avengers, and thusly to attach him *only* to that franchise from here on out.

For the life of me I can't understand why people want him to wear the TFA suit.

'cause it looked pretty damn boss as well.
But really dig this suit and it fits better with the modern times aspect of the story.

Wow so Steve is staying true to his character by sticking up for Banner who's being bully by Stark .

I was just scrolling through tumblr looking at all the new Avengers gifs and I noticed something. Chris Evans may be one of the best "eye" actors alive. He really knows how to use his eyes to display emotion.

Y'know....thinking back to most of his performances....Yeah.
He IS pretty good.

^ So, I'm the only one who would like to see this?

Definitely. For me, his performance in TFA was the best from any of the Marvel leads, in terms of actual acting. RDJ gets all the plaudits because he is the most charismatic, but Evans really gave a great, heartfelt performance in a role that could have turned out horribly hammy and corny.

Like you say, he's really good at conveying emotions with just his eyes or facial expression. The very final scene for example. Brilliant acting.
