The Amazing Spider-Man Amazing Spidey Video Game Thread. - - - - - - Part 15

Yeah Web of Shadows had very good web swinging, I agree! I did however hate that dive animation haha! :p

The way I see a first-person system working: You have to decide what to shoot at (poles, walls, etc.) gauge whether or not you can actually swing from it, and you could easily lead yourself into a web rush sequence.

The only problem with this is that you don't really see cool acts of agility and flips and such.

That sounds waaaay too complicated to be fun at all. It'd be like being stuck in Web Rush mode permanently. It doesn't sound like it'd be very fluid.

They could definitely improve the system though.

I really wish that the rights to Spidey games would go to some other publisher- I'm tired of Activision.

There's always room for improvement. And I think we are all tired of Activision, however, Beenox has given me reason for hope.

It's hard for me, I think the web swinging in SM2 is just so much more fun! At the same time it could become very problematic sometimes when you needed to land on a very specific point. But given how the Web Rush fixes that, I'd love to see the Spider-Man 2 web swinging return (with tweaks and polish of course) with the Web Rush there as well.

I find the swinging in ASM to be funner (yeah, I know it's supposed to be 'more fun' but I like funner...it's more better :cwink:) and the big reason for that is the web rush. It's such a simple thing, they basically created a web zip on roids, but it's allowed you to be so incredibly accurate and precise with your movements. That's how you should feel when free roaming as Spidey. It was always so frustrating in previous games when you'd get stuck in a corner or something like that where Spidey is turning in circles and the camera is freaking out. Web rush eliminates those frustrating moments while also making locomotion look so incredible.

Really? It sound fairly fluid to me.

But I probably wouldn't want to have that be designed until games start having first-person characters also be fully realized in the world (shadows and such).

I also heard some ideas of incorporating a parkour system, which I imagine would be similar to the chase scene (thugs and Peter) in the beginning of the move and the final swing where he is going through the alleyway and jumping off walls and such.

Actually, if they add the ability to be Peter, it would be sort of neat to not be able to websling but be able to skateboard around and parkour.

God I wish I could work on a spidey game.

But they already did that for the movie's teaser trailer. :o

didn't say I wanted the whole game in third-person, but thanks for your idea >.>

No first person, nothing, I hate first person in general
One thing they must fix in sequels is Spider-Man's rotation in air vents, anybody else noticed how in ("Oscorp's Robotics Lab" methinks) Spider-Man enters the air vent in one room moving on the lower side, turns to the upper side, then enters the next room as if he didn't flip in the air duct?

We probably won't get any deep info about the next game for a while, but it would be nice to at least know whether or not Beenox is working on a movie tie in game or a comic book based game.

Wait 6 months from now to get any info or insight about any new Spider-Man game
I hope they don't do anything stupid like they did with the rat mutates in their last game

Since we know a movie-tie in game is for certain...I'd rather they solely work on that game and not do two at the same time. They were smart last time to have a smaller team work on EoT while the main group did ASM but it would be even more efficient to have the entire staff work on one game and have one goal.

Watching some vids of God Of War Ascension I just realised something.

It must be one hell of an unthankful task to make a Spidey game. You really are limited when it comes to letting your imagination out. You can't take things to such an epic scale as God of War for example. The game is expected to have freeroam which makes it hard to make the game look as good graphically. Spidey's ability to webswing complicates things alot! etc.

^Yeah. The next game should hopefully be on the next generation of platforms which will increase the amount that they can put into the free-roaming world.

Spidey's mobility will always be a factor that drags down that part of the game though. They'll continue to improve things with each game but because of his uniqueness, Spider-man's games will be a step behind other free roam environments in that regard.

Which is why I think EoT was a great idea done bad. They could have done so much more with that game and it would have been truly awesome!

I'm playing this again, and I'm second guessing my choice in considering it my favorite Spider-Man game

I did read Whitney's hallucenogine part on the rats, tried to believe it, but couldn't. I see it is kind of self aware of that foolishness by making Whitney say the origin is unknwn or weird, but it's not properly aware, the rat people shoot acid, it looks like acid, it burns like acid, doesn't look like something else

Treyarch did it right with their earlier free roam games and organic street missions, -I'll use Ultimate Spider-Man for reference- and say; there is a specified amount of street missions needed to go through for a 100% completion of the game, but you can still have an infinite number of those street missions. What Beenox did by forcing you to start a new game to play street missions (stop thugs, save citizens, stop cars, catch snipers...) instead of making them organic is a huge step back

Wall running using the web swing button is fine, problem with the way it's implemented is not allowing Spidey to twist while running and run left or right, Spider-Man 2 did it right, Spider-Man 3 kept it (or returned it after Ultimate removing it), and Web of Shadows kept proper wall running

Charged jumping is done best in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, it allows long forward jumps there, in Amazing you are only allowed to charge your jump upwards, not the best choice

Combat has a few awkward moves, first two punches are awkward, Spider-Man 2 on PC kind of awkward, same with the first kick, these three attacks look clumsy, the rest of the moves are fine

Street slashers and regular thugs keep calling Spider-Man "kid", I never got why, still don't, sounds ridiculous cause they should not know

Rhino was ignored after Spider-Man threw him in that hole, barely anything about him is given. Rhino trailer was misleading, it made it sound as if Rhino will have more to his story. Maybe there should be, this is after all a movie game, movies games are infamous for being rushed, even the good ones

Ultimate Spider-Man removed poleswinging, but it is there in the rest of the open world Spidey games, then Amazing Spider-Man cancels it again. First it felt alright, but the more I play this game the more I miss poleswing

Hanging thugs from street lamps and flag posts is gone, that is very much like the poleswing thing, I was ok with it not being there, then I grew tired of not having it there

Again, like Spider-Island, what happened to the virus after all people in Manhattan were cured? This thing bothered me since that comic arc, and it still bothers me
Oh, and Smythe got away from the police -possibly- after the cure was spread, you'd think he might get one

Might be nitpicks, but these are things I don't really like in the game, don't hate them, just that they bother me to some degree

What if Beenox is working on a next gen Spidey game?

One could hope, right?

It's not unreasonable to think that they are. The program for the new generation has been out for a while.

It's best to keep the next game for next gen
I hope they don't make a poor counterpart for the game and release it to the PS3

The Amazing Spider-Man game was pretty decent, not a bad effort and it did try to stand on its own two feet and not just be a cheap knock off of the movie.

Otherwise, my favourite Spidey games are probably Spider-Man 2, Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Man Web of Shadows :D

Stuck on 699 comics ... spent 45mins just swinging around looking for the last one, while quite therapeutic its a pain now.

Welcome Tody :)

UnionJack; it should appear on the mini map, it's easy to travel in that area
