Superhero Cinematic Civil War - Part 57

George Lucas famously only ever told the cast of the original Star Wars trilogy to make the next take "faster and more intense!"
This strangely reminds me of Lost in Translation: "Could you do it slower and with more intensity?"

Also it's gonna be interesting to see the conversation around it when this comes out and having episode 1 of Falcon and the Winter Soldier come out the next day.

I already know how it's going to go. The same as it did for MoS and BvS. I don't think that is really in doubt.

Eh people who like what Snyder does will be praising it like its the 2nd coming of Christ... But most everyone else is preoccupied with Falcon and the Winter Soldier

As I've said, I don't think anyone who wasn't into the Snyder Cut will care or be happy about it.

Well, uh...that definitely looks like a Zack Snyder film.

And by that, his washed out, grey and pee-colored “aesthetic” from his other films to its most Zack Snyder-esque degree, and putting in famously profound sounding sayings made famous by well-known historical figures that you thought sounded cool and wrote down while you payed attention the bare minimum in English Lit and History class, and completely missing the point of their meaning entirely.

Also, the “We live in a society” line.:lmao: That sounds like that would be put into a parody trailer of an actual movie trailer making fun of edgelord filmmakers who think their dialogue sounds deep and profound, not the actual movie trailer.

We're all probably drastically overestimating the impact the Snyder Cut will have outside our fandom beyond Film Twitter and most of the rest of the internet taking turns kicking the **** out of it. Fandom will be a ***ing warzone though.

I'll start by saying something nice; Alfred's line is fine.

The rest of the dialogue.... why? It makes "Things fall, and what falls is fallen" in the opening narration of BvS seem smart in comparison. Why does everyone sound defeated? Why does Joker sound.. whatever.

If this doesn't have any CGI stache masking scene I'll be disappointed.

I don’t think anyone’s underestimating it’s potential impact. More like baffled why so many would want something like this in the first place.

The one thing I'm confident will be worse in this version is Cavill. The Superman stuff in the theatrical cut isn't great but Cavill's screen presence is way stronger despite the silliness than in either MoS or BvS. Him just straight up demolishing Steppenwolf with virtually no effort is probably the highlight of the theatrical cut.

I'm happy Snyder changed it to 1.43. Of course it was shot for it, probably with 1.85 in mind as well for theatrical presentation, but I like when cinematography uses vertical space of the old AR. UPD. He intends to release it in full 1.33? That's pretty weird.

On that note, did the really dedicated Snyder cult emerge after Man of Steel? Or was it mostly formed as a self-conscious backlash to BvS getting mauled critically? My fandom activity was mostly on hiatus between TDKR and Matt Reeves coming aboard The Batman so I missed out on that chapter.

Exactly and that's why so many people have been saying it's silly to release this.
No one cares about this incarnation of JL or Snyder outside us fan boys.

Recutting Godfather Pt 3? Makes sense. Coppola is a legend and so many people love the Godfather series
Recutting Kingdom of Heaven? Little more shakey, but I get it. It's Ridley Scott
Recutting Justice League? It already flopped, majority don't care about it and you had to spend extra money to reshoot scenes... Why? 70 mill that could go to a new project with less baggage

I'm sure though, like every big streaming release we'll hear it broke records and it's the most successful thing since yadayada

I didn't notice it until BvS

I’m actually disappointed that Jeremy Irons’ “charging bull” line hasn’t caught fire on the innanets.

That sounds like soap opera dialogue to me.

Latter. And I was part of it initially.

The argument that it's a "totally different" film falters a bit because to the general audience it sure doesn't look like a totally different movie. It looks like the same movie they either rejected or didn't notice with more violent action and some new scenes.

I was pretty fond of BvS on first viewing. Funnily enough, I did the thing a lot of the better elements of the Snyder fandom do where I kinda projected my own ideas and interpretations onto that films utter narrative chaos but that... Did not survive a rewatch.

Some of it depends on the director. Some directors give their actors way more latitude in creating their portrayal than others. I don't know what Ayer is like with his actors.

It’s not just about creating a portrayal. A director’s job is to coordinate the blocking and staging of the actors. Literally directing them on how to move.

Somewhat same. I watched it several times in a theater. I loved it a lot initially. But later discussions and broader perspective influenced my perception of the movie. I still like certain things about it, I'm more critical of other, but I didn't watch it since 2016 and I'm saving MoS and BvS till Snyder Cut comes out. So I can refresh them all one after another and then watch the League as it was made originally.

You all still don’t believe they’re gonna let Snyder do Justice League Part 2 after this... four hour tour de force is released?

Yep. I doubt the Snyder Cut will be a success but some faction at WB will convince themselves Moar Snyderverse is what fans want and give him something. Unless he's got a big Netflix deal in the works which is quite possible.

I can see them letting him do it in animated form. It’s generally more cheaper that way. Live-action? That would be too costly an expenditure. There’s a major difference between spending millions of dollars to finish a version of a movie that bombed four years ago and spending hundreds of millions to make a sequel to a movie that bombed four years ago from scratch.
