Superhero Cinematic Civil War - Part 57

Complete random tidbit:

I bought a Nintendo Switch the other day, I’m finally getting around to playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, why didn’t y’all tell me this game was so fun and addictive?

I love the cutscenes. Clearly it’s influenced by the MCU and it’s interesting how seamless it fits the MCU narrative with the Netflix Defenders and the X-Men.

The DLC, beyond adding more playable characters and modes, also added a great story epilogue revolving around The Fantastic 4 and Doctor Doom complete with new locations and cutscenes, really giving It the "Ultimate Alliance" feel.

Who is playing Hal Jordan/Green Lantern? Boss Logic was officially commissioned to do artwork for The Snyder Cut -- and GL is in it.

Speaking of, I rewatched the green lantern movie. It is even worse than I remember. The only noteworthy thing about the film is a young Taika Waititi.
I remember so much hate for him in that movie.

We live in a society.... of beef.

If it wasn't for their negligence and incompetence I would feel bad for WB execs. BvS was a miserable disaster and early Justice League trailers suggested it was going the same way. They hire the guy who did The Avengers to come in and save the film by adding colour and character, unwittingly unleashing years of abuse accusations and disastrous PR in the process. The film comes out and is still junk, but now you have fans obsessed with the 'original' version. You decide to appease them and find yourself shelling out even more money and affording even more creative control to the guy who screwed this universe up in the first place. He's going to double down on all the choices that turned your superhero team-up cash cow into a niche streaming service oddity. And the fans are celebrating new trailers for an old film, because they look like the old trailers again, even though the old trailers signaled disaster.

Yeah, this pretty much sums it up. I still wonder what this universe might have been, had it not been handed to Zack Snyder.

Im honestly not sure if I should watch the Snyder Cut or not. I know this is gonna be exactly what I'm expecting.

If you hated MoS and BvS, then my recommendation is follow 1 is a fluke, 2 is a trend.

Not everyone is like me and will buy every movie in a franchise, like F13 or something, and marathon all the good and bad films :o

This is what I don't understand from some of the fans that think this will open doors to more Snyder movies or influenced Snyder spinoffs. What has changed since 2016? I think some of them think people are just are going to suddenly appreciate MOS & BvS because his JL is being released.

Snyder almost completely destroyed the DCEU by tanking their property at the box office. if WB is smart, there's no way they'd do that.

Who looks eerily like a Richard Ayoade in that movie.

I read somewhere that they were aiming for Ayoade for that role originally but when they couldn’t get Taika they went with Taika.

Glad to see Taika get a DC redemption with James Gunn’s Suicide Squad flick coming out.

We were getting responses like that in 2016. Let's wait a few years and people will appreciate it. It's almost 5 years later but it's not like the general audience has softened towards it. A $875M grossing movie isn't Blade Runner. It's not a cult movie.

I agree. They ain't doing a ton of spin-offs to this thing. Absolute max I could ever see happening is a comic book version of a sequel of like one of those DC Animated films or something. But 300 million dollar mega blockbuster sequel? No chance

No Studio is putting $250-$300M in anything for the foreseeable future. Luckily Disney finished Star Wars and Avengers in 2019. Any future Star Wars or Marvel movie I feel even before the pandemic would be south of $200M.

There's nothing to feel sorry for there. The only part of it that wasn't directly their own fault was Whedon turning out to be abusive and a pr disaster - but Hollywood rumors being what they are, odds are someone at WB knew there were stories and just figured that wouldn't be a problem.

If WB wanted to change tack after the extremely divisive BvS they should've had the guts to do it up front, not let Snyder shoot the entire movie first then demand someone else come in, re-shoot half of it and turn it into something completely different. JL was dead in the water before Whedon even showed up - his only job there was to dress up the corpse. And the execs couldn't even get out of the way of letting even that much happen with their ridiculous insistance on a short run-time and refusal to move the release date back even though the movie obviously needed more work. If they had given the post-production process some more time, the movie might have at least not been one of the most hideous blockbusters of the decade and there probably wouldn't have been such a massive meme with the whole mustache thing.

Has anyone figured out who that is speaking of the beginning of the JL trailer? Is it Lex?
