Did Taika mention anything new?

The sequel is set to reunite Thor and old flame Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, and is meant to be the “craziest” thing Waititi has done. “What I wanted to do from the beginning was to ask: ‘What are people expecting the least from this franchise?’ Oh, I know – a full-blown love story!”

He’s also advanced his use of cutting-edge technology. Waititi is not daunted by the demands of working on big, CGI-heavy films; as an independent filmmaker he had taught himself to understand green screens a long time ago. “I’m constantly working with [the VFX team] to find solutions for things,” he says.

For Thor: Ragnarok, creative studio Satellite Lab developed Dynamiclight, a technique which uses a special rig to move the lighting at eight times the speed of sound. It’s what allowed Waititi to create the visually striking Hela flashback sequence, in which light moves rapidly over footage shot at 1,200 frames per second. In Thor: Love and Thunder, Waititi is excited about a new Satellite Lab technology called PlateLight, which uses the same principle (high-speed lights and slow-motion footage) to capture multiple lighting set-ups simultaneously within a single shot. “And then when you break down that footage into increments of 24 frames per second,” he says, “you have every single kind of lighting, all individually captured. So later you can choose your lighting in post-production.”

Waititi is also continuing his use of Industrial Light & Magic’s StageCraft technology, which he first used while directing the finale of The Mandalorian’s first season. It essentially allows filmmakers to generate reactive digital backdrops in real time (in front of the camera), through LED screens wrapped around a set. Waititi is a fan because, counterintuitively, it harks back to a more “old school” way of making films. “The actors can be in the environment; they can see what everyone else can see.”

Here’s somewhere you can that tech in action. Pretty interesting and potentially very useful stuff.

It's very interesting technology that feels like a real game changer in some aspects. To see how this comes across in the film is yet another aspect to look forward to, among the already numerous ones.

On the subject of “The Satellite Lab’s Dynamic Light” effects pioneered in Ragnarok and the fact they came back for TLT with new tech like the PlateLight stuff, here’s a few more tidbits of info.

Thor: The Dark World's Director's Cut Featured More Death & Magic

Part of me is still curious to know what the original cut of TDW would have been. I mean, maybe it would have been even worse. But perhaps not.

The second one in my view was one of the worst MCU movies I have ever seen. All of the human characters were annoying as hell, the villains were not great and a complete waste of Christopher Eccelson, Zack Levi, Ray Stevenson and Chris O'Dowd. Thor was stilted in his performance. I liked Thor better in his next several appearances, and I didn't even mind Fat Thor in End Game. It took WandaVision for me to turn around on Darcy Lewis. Before WandaVision, I thought she was annoying as hell, moreso than Jane Foster. After WandaVision, I am like "I hope Darcy comes back in the future." I hope that Love and Thunder can do that for Jane Foster, make her a character that I like and cannot wait to see return (provided she does) in the future.

I agree that its probably the weakest MCU film, but all the same I do feel people tend to exaggerate how "bad" it is. It still has redeeming qualities, but the problems hold it back from being anything other than average.

At the end of the day, its hard to know who was really to "blame". Taylor clearly had a very different movie in mind than the one we got, but that doesn't necessarily mean it would have been better. At the same time, Marvel/Disney/Perlmutter seem to have interfered a lot too.

So it probably wasn't just one person responsible.

I hope that Love and Thunder can do that for Jane Foster, make her a character that I like and cannot wait to see return (provided she does) in the future.

I'm fully confident that we'll get a great portrayal of Jane in L&T, and so is Taika, given that he said that this movie is a love story.

Re: Dark World.
Early MCU. They were still figuring out how to approach sequels. I liked it though, it's ok. Not every movie needs to be five-stars amazing.

Happy Birthday Taika Waititi

Thank you for helping reinvent Thor and breathing life into the character, franchise and the overall Marvel cinematic universe.

It has come a long way from the 150.000 he got paid for the first Thor.

Marvel released the Eternals Official Trailer and now the Spider Man: NHW Teaser, up next should be:
- Spider-Man: NWH ---------- Official Trailer
- Doctor Strange: ITMOM - Teaser Trailer
- Thor: Love and Thunder - Teaser Trailer

In this "post" pandemic era Marvel has released:

Shang-Chi -------------- Teaser Trailer = 4 months and 14 days before theatrical release
Eternals ----------------- Teaser Trailer = 5 months and 10 days
Spider-Man: NWH - Teaser Trailer = 3 months and 21 days

Shang-Chi - Official Trailer = 2 months and 10 days
Eternals ---- Official Trailer = 2 months and 14 days

Taking these dates into account I wouldn't be surprised if they hold the TLT teaser until after D23(Nov 19-21). Maybe they'll release it in December. First they'll prioritize SM: NWH which comes exactly 1 month after the event and then give the spotlight to Doctor Strange: ITMOM which at that time will be around 4 and half months from release.

The trailer should at least come out by December. SiX months before its release.

Interesting that "A Valkyrie" is listed. Looks like "our" Valkyrie is rebuilding the Valkyrie Corps!

I'm also assuming that we will be introduced to Gorr by seeing him kill the unnamed god. And the Spartan soldiers are interesting. Perhaps its going to be revealed that Gorr's quest has been going on for thousands of years, just as was the case in the original comic?

Not sure when we will get a trailer honestly. Spider-Man still needs a full trailer so I see that being released with Eternals.

Then a MoM teaser in December with NWH.

Then a teaser late Jan early Feb for L&T, possibly with the Super Bowl. Then a full trailer in MoM in March.

All assuming nothing gets pushed out at this point.
