Superhero Cinematic Civil War - Part 57

I don't care all that much about the cinematic preferences of other folks and would prefer to ignore the lazy cheap shots frequently directed toward the MCU. But I absolutely loathe the "Every Marvel movie blah blah blah" nonsense and I know twelve year old me would be extremely disappointed in the man he turned into if I didn't respond.

Playing devil's advocate, but if the Marvel monolith continues to hire non-white creatives the likes of Zhao, Nia DaCosta, Ryan Coogler, Bassam Tariq etc. and let them express their vision, I say party on.

Which is all great until they go the way of Winnie the Pooh.

There's a larger picture here. By all means, hire diverse people, but these conglomerates are absorbing the market while going unregulated while they underpay their employees and their higher ups get richer and richer. Don't forget how they treat their theme park employees like ****. Look up how much Jason Kilar of WarnerMedia made last year during the pandemic. I don't care if I get FF and X-Men in the MCU, I'd rather have these companies be trust busted.

They also don't value or care about diversity. They are corporations. They want you to buy their products. That's it. They'll spout superficial HR approved progressive messaging to placate, but it's not out of any belief in these values. It's out of fear of offending people because they've done market research that proves if they don't, they will lose money.

For God's sake, the new direction of Paramount looks to be to create low cost, middling content in order to increase the value so Viacom can be bought up at one point. It's possible a conglomerate like Viacom CBS could very well be bought this decade. But I guess the good news is before Amazon buys them, at least those assets will be diverse? I ask: What is the real issue here?

I love me some MCU, but I haven't felt compelled to watch Black Widow or Shang-Chi. I know they will be "good" in that MCU way, but I just don't care that much? I dunno if I'd say that all the films are the same, but there is something about kinda knowing what you are going to get, and you know, it's fine, but not terribly exciting.

Y’all read Neil Blomkemp’s response to Denis? Lawd that escalated quickly.

I liked Chappy, but Blomkamp needs to get his head out of his ass.

Me everytime a good director attacks / comment comic book franchises to generate some buzz for their upcoming movie the general audience dont care about.

*I will watch Dune for sure but it seems to be far away from what it deserved.

Outside of What If? I don't really see a need to bring him back. He was a fine C-list villain but I never once had the thought, "Damn, I wish they hadn't killed off Crossbones" like I have with other villains such as Killmonger, Ulysses Klaue or Hela.

I’m guessing What If?, but you never know.

I really hope that Simu Liu story circling around about him being part of a Men’s Rights Reddit forum isn’t true. :csad:

You can skip Black Widow. You're not missing anything. Just re-watch The Winter Soldier because Black Widow is a diet, watered down version of Cap2 imo.. But I definitely will recommend Shag-Chi. That was a kick ass movie.

Yeah, I rewatched Black Widow the other night. I still like it but it's definitely not as good as I thought it was when I saw it in theaters. I guess the "first post-pandemic MCU film" luster has worn off. Still, Florence Pugh as Yelena really elevates the movie and it's also worth watching for David Harbour.
