Agreed! Plus, I feel like people have warmed up to S-M3 over the years in comparison to all the hate when it first came out. I still really enjoy that movie, and while its not as amazing as the first 2 Raimi flicks, I still rank above all the other live action adaptions that followed.

As someone who's always liked Spider-Man 3, I really got a kick out of the newfound love for it in the past few years with the memes. I'd also take it over the TASM movies any day.

Before the Delta variant blew up, I swore that No Way Home would be the first post-pandemic film to hit $1B. I think it can still do it now that the variants have calmed down a bit. But as it is, RIP to basically every other movie opening against No Way Home. The Matrix Resurrections may have a shot at weathering the storm but The King's Man is dead in the water.

A Chloe Zhao superhero movie being reviewed worse than a Zack Snyder superhero movie released in the same year is certainly something I didn’t have on my 2021 bingo card. It’s kind of ironic when you consider that some of the reviews are comparing Eternals to a Snyder DC film. :o
 
Shame, I’m really looking forward to Eternals. Hopefully still gives me what I want from it.

Clearly, Snyder is the more talented filmmaker. :o
 
Jesus, is anyone else getting kicked out constantly? I keep having to sign back in every couple minutes.
 
If Eternals is being compared to Snyder's DCEU stuff then all I can say is I hope it's more in line with ZSJL (which I actually enjoyed) than BvS. Overall I'm still planning on seeing it next Thursday but much like every other MCU film that focused on heroes I wasn't as familiar with like Captain Marvel and Shang-Chi, I'm going in with a blank slate as far as expectations.
 
Does anyone else think it’s a little…jarring that the MCU, which got to where it is today by forging ahead and doing its own thing, is relying so much on what came before with Spider-Man? I don’t doubt that Sony is at least partially to blame but even acknowledging the potential for throwbacks and cameos with the multiverse angle, I’m a little taken aback by how heavily they’re leaning into the past.

Not a criticism, just an observation. I thought the same thing when they brought Simmons back to play JJ.

And if the rumors are true, I think it’s even stranger to bring the Fox-Men back in MOM.

There's a couple of factors at play there. In terms of No Way Home, I don't think this would have happened if the whole concept of the Spider-Verse was never a thing in the comics. So that's the number one reason. The other reason is that nostalgia = $$$. It's been a thing in Hollywood for a while but The Force Awakens really lit the fire that started Hollywood on the nostalgic sequel/reboot crusade for better (Blade Runner 2049, Halloween 2018) or worse (Terminator: Dark Fate, Alien: Covenant). Marvel wants a piece of that pie too. Endgame already kind of felt like a nostalgic look back at the MCU as a whole up to that point, and it kind of worked since when I saw it opening night, the theater went nuts at all the callbacks from the first Avengers, the elevator scene from TWS, Quill dancing to "Come and Get Your Love", etc. Naturally they want to take it a step further to appeal to fans who grew up with the past Spider-Man and X-Men films since they have the opportunity to do so now that the multiverse has been introduced. I think it makes sense for Marvel to cherry pick elements of past pre-MCU films because of this. However, I can't see it being something long-lasting. I have a feeling that No Way Home will be the only time we see the Raimi and Webb characters come back and the same thing goes for any Fox X-Men characters they bring in to the fold in future films save for Deadpool. As long as it's done very sparingly, I'm fine with it.

I'm also fine with JK Simmons playing the MCU JJ because he's just so damn good in the role that I can't imagine anyone else playing him. Especially since Simmons has been at the top of his game for a while now.
 
Like I said in the Eternals forum, I honestly don't care what the RT score is for Eternals. I value reading people's opinions, but I have never valued the % in any meaningful way. Still really excited to see this next Friday where it will have its day in court for me, and then I can weigh in on whether i agree with the criticism of the movie or not. When watching the movie, this score won't even be on my mind at all.

Still this is just one set of MCU events now while other new films are coming out with new characters or older characters doing new things. If it was like Phase One where everything was focused and they were massively leaning back on Spidey films then I would feel different. Along with the shows there is going to be a lot going on in the MCU at the same time once everything ramps up.
