X-Men - Part 4

Maybe they could dress the woman appropriately for battle :argh:.

Oh, I thought it was coming out this month....my mistake.

Coipel has a tendency to be late. I doubt he'll be on this thing past the first arc anyway. Marvel has zero continuity with their artists these days. They promote stuff that's launching with a big name guy that usually bounces 5 issues in. McNiven on Cap, Immonen on ANXM, Opena on Avengers, ect.....
JRJr is drawing Cap, and though his style may not be for everyone, he's always on time.

It's definitely for me. It's my favorite Marvel book right now, and I love that it ships once a month and on time.

What did everyone think of the last ANXM

Jean's being quite... liberal with her telepathy. I'm loving the characterization. It feels like the teenage version of Morrison's Jean.

Kitty and Iceman's Beast and Cap imitation was the best thing in X-Men since.....ever.

Immonen and Opena "bounced" because their books are both biweekly, and no modern artist outside of Bagley could keep up with that schedule.

Not to mention Marvel planned it that way.

And all the books came out on time.

So you really don't have a point.

But you're runawayboulder, so I don't know why I'm even saying this.

I love that they are interacting so much after never doing so prior to last year

So what's your point?

Just checking here, but Immonen is only taking off an arc or something... right? I've never heard that he's left the book.

I can't keep up with all these titles...
Me either. Im reading less books now post Now launch. The books come out WAY too fast for me too keep up. Ive really only been reading All New X-men and Uncanny X-men on a regular basis. You forget about something and next thing you know, 4 issues have gone by which makes it harder to jump back in.

That everyone else shouldn't listen to you, I think.

They don't have to for all I care. I'm just giving MY opinion on something. Isn't that the point of this place, after all?

You seem to have a bone to pick with me though. Every now and then you throw a snide remark my way for whatever reason. Do me a favor and go bug someone else.

I have done a really good job of keeping up....but you make some very good points. If I slip up for a month or two I would be too far behind due to the double shipping. Getting way too expensive.

So. 5 (soon) X-Men team books? All New, Uncanny, WATX, Astonishing, and Adjectiveless ...all sharing the same characters?

I actually quoted this to show how they aren't really ovelapping all that much, but I think you're right. Wolverine & the X-Men is essentially the same cast as All New X-Men. Astonishing borrows from that same cast (Wolverine, Iceman, Warbird?) plus a couple extra members, and Adjectiveless does the same (adding Jubilee... as well as Psylocke, who is on Uncanny X-Force). Uncanny is a separate cast, but that and All New will be cameoing quite a bit in each other's books due to the Bendis-connection so they'll still be prevalent in each other's books (at least, that's my understanding of it).

So yeah. Kitty, Beast, Iceman, Wolverine, and Storm are pretty much everywhere. Rachel, Warbird, and Psylocke are in 2-3 books. Then we have the Uncanny team who have their book plus quite a few cameos I'd expect.

There aren't too many X-Men (living) who are being left out of comics, save for smaller names like Lifeguard, Pixie, and Warpath, but there does seem to be an overabundance of X-Men books with repeating characters.

Honestly, the X-Men need to be streamlined. Two of these books can be cut and no one would miss them. All you'd have to do is move Northstar to Uncanny, joining Cyclops, and bring Northstar's husband with him and Astonishing X-Men can be canned. It's not serving any other purpose really other than showcasing the first gay marriage at Marvel. Then take Evan, Kid Omega, Idy, and Broo out of Wolverine & the X-Men and put them in All New X-Men and you could can W&tXM as well. It's basically the same thing as All New X-Men but with different students.

Then you'd have Uncanny X-Men, All New X-Men, and Adjectiveless X-Men. That one is okay, in my opinion, because it's a different take... showcasing the X-women, which hasn't really been done before. Characters repeat but it could have it's audience apart from the other titles. Especially if you add one or two more women who aren't in other books like Lifegard and Dazzler (soon). Astonishing X-Men and Wolverine & the X-Men, though, are just pointless.

ANXM couldn't handle all of the cast from Wolverine & the X-Men
The students are the biggest part of that book, and I'm loving them
I wouldn't want to see them take a back seat to the O5

Plus All-New would have to focus more on Logan, much to everyone here's consternation
You know there's gotta be at least one X-Book with Wolverine in a starring role

And while W&txm has had a bit of a lull, it's still a good book
I'd rather keep that when we don't know if adjectiveless or uncanny will be any good

It still has the problem of being pretty much the same as All New X-Men, though. The thing is, All New X-Men has a different premise than any other title because of the original 5. Wolverine & the X-Men just has different students, and not as interesting ones plot-wise. I like most of them (save the new ones, who do nothing for me) but the story possibilities are really there with Jean and Warren and the others.

To stop the repeating characters, though, they could always find a new direction like how New X-Men was. Star the students with only minor roles for the teachers. Or they could somehow branch out. This generation of students began with Morrison back in, what, 2001? And yet, they're still sitting in the school. Actually, they've sat in 5 schools now. Maybe it's time to move them on. Take the most popular and do something like what happened to the New Mutants... make them their own team.

I figure if you take Rockslide, Anole, Pixie, Kid Omega, Idy, Evan, and Broo... that's a pretty good team that seams to be fan favorites. There are others I'd throw in, like Mercury, Prodigy, Surge, and Hellion, but the team can't get too big. Maybe have a previous generation student take charge and lead them, someone like Husk or Chamber.
