Has VAR been a success though? I feel like it's been a bit of a **** show honestly. I'm all for decreasing the amount of mistakes made but when you have goals like the one Sheffield scored against Aston Villa just a few weeks ago ruled out despite everyone and their grandma clearly seeing it was a goal, you really start to doubt technology.
So far I think which situations go to VAR and which doesn't seem super random and you have the most clear cut decisions ever being looked at 5-6 times but then something suspect happens and they don't even look at it a second time. I think also it shouldn't have to take 10 people in a VAR-room watching replays from 10 different angles which sometimes takes 3-4 minutes to get a call right.
Overall in my opinion, yes. Still needs tweaked & improved as it's far from perfect, not only needs to be quicker, but it also needs to be more consistent with similar decisions. VAR should have stepped in & told the referee that the ball had clearly cross the line in the Sheffield United/Aston Villa game regardless of what the goal-line technology was telling him or in the referee's case, not telling him.
I also want VAR to be capable of intervening if there has been any incorrect decision (or even non-decision) made on the pitch if it's clear.
Mic the referees &/or VAR referees up also like the NFL, so they can announce exactly how they view an incident so there is better clarity for fans.
