Fantastic Four General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

I‘d prefer a Doom prequel miniseries above all :p

You are 100 percent right...can you imagine a metallic green mix logo titled DOOM: LATVERIA'S MONARCH or something along those lines as a show for Disney Plus?? I would probably die right there with a BIG smile on my face.

Early reports in viewings are low for the Hawkeye series on Disney +, the lowest of any of their Marvel series yet. This once again makes me fear that by the time the FF gets made, the MCU is going to be a shell of its formal self.

I haven't watched it yet, but I thought Hawkeye looked interesting. Some say it's representative of a trend to replace popular characters with female versions. But my theory is maybe people are watching the Beatles.

I think we’re at a crossroads, and I think there is some danger.

But I’m also confident that FF is the path out of this current malaise, and I think Fiege is intuitive enough to understand that.

Also, just looking at the schedule, Spider-man, Dr. Strange, Thor, Ant-man, Black Panther, She-Hulk and Moon Knight will bring some interest back.

While I’m going to be nervous until we start getting real news, I think the way things are going could help, rather than hurt, FF.

They had begun to have so much success, I think hubris began to creep in and they thought they could use characters like Black Widow, Shang Chi, Eternals and Hawkeye with weak stories and continue to ride high, but they should be learning from their mistakes.

Better for them to suffer some defeats and realize they really need to put the effort in to make these things work now than a couple years from now.

I think that may depend on just how woke they're planning on making the new FF.

Well, the comic book FF was at times quite woke for its time. Johnny's college roommate was a Native American, the mag introduced the first black mainstream hero and the team battled a white supremacist in one issue. If wokeness makes you uncomfortable the MCU reboot may not be for you.

As for Hawkeye, the streaming #s are not that far off from WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. My guess is increased competition in the streaming space during the holidays are having a negative effect on the first two episodes, and it should pick up when previously established MCU and Marvel TV characters make their appearances. I doubt the decrease in viewership is due to Kate Bishop being a gal.

I don't consider any of that woke, just "not racist". Like most people.

Woke doesn't necessarily refer to race anyway. They could replace the FF with four female members. In which case they are no longer the same characters.

Certain types commandeered the term for their own purposes, but being woke means having an awareness of racial inequity. Which the early FF did. Here's hoping the MCU reboot continues that proud tradition!

I don’t want this movie too too tied up in MCU connections (focus on getting the FF right) but it’d be cool to introduce Reed Richards on site studying

Tiamut

I'd say that, aside from "certain types", activists have also distorted the original definition.
Whatever Stan wrote is fine with me. If the MCU wants to push the 2021 trend of using identity politics to divide people (not saying they will), then the film will be garbage, and unsuccessful.

Seeing the hype for both Spider-Verse 2 and No Way Home, and the upcoming Spidey videogame sequel with Venom makes me realize how much being a Fantastic Four fan sucks. We got no news about any content this year while X-Men(which doesn’t even have a movie announced) has a animated series revival and videogames to tide people over while they wait for the MCU version. Even Superman, who has also similarly had a rough time cinematically currently has a acclaimed tv show on air right now. Spider-Man, X-Men and Batman fans are spoiled while we F4 fans are left to starve.

That's what happens when you haven't had good film adaptations. That's why I was so hopeful for Marvel to pick up the film rights to the FF, because I figured they would do a good job on them. It's their best chance. But I'm not as hopeful about it as I was.

That Superman and Lois show on CW really is good, I was impressed. Tyler Hoechlin makes a great Superman.

So apparently Lake Bell is playing Lucia Von Bardas in BP2. The implications of the Latverian Prime Minister being a supporting character in Wakanda Forever are huge.

Maybe
Doom had T'Challa assassinated by an Atlantean mercenary to start a war between Atlantis and Wakanda
.

It'd be ironic to see Doom and/or the FF debut in a Black Panther movie given that BP made his comics debut in Fantastic Four #52.

Interesting idea, but I doubt we would actually see the FF debut until their movie. Could have a short cameo of one of the characters though. Probably Johnny or Reed if it came to pass.

this should be the correct definition, but it has been coopted by some ppl who want to pander to specific demographics

There has been a lot of speculation about individual members of the FF making appearances, either in movies or a Disney+ series. Like possibly a pre-accident Reed showing up to consult on something. And early on there was even speculation that Doom was going to be the big bad for the next phase, he was going to be the next Thanos. None of that speculation was or is reliable, however. But it's fun to think about, since we don't have anything else.

Yeah fun to think about and great if anything like that happens, but also fine if not and they save everything for the film.

Personally I would have felt cheated to see the Avengers fighting Doom when they hadn't even debuted the Fantastic Four yet. My main complaint is the long wait for the FF movie. But if they get it right, it will be worth it.

I’m sure they’ll put every effort into getting it right after all this time and given all past F4 efforts. They need future MCU staples after the likes of Stark, Cap and Widow (& Panther) have exited and the F4 (and X-Men) I think will be a big part of the MCU’s future from the moment they debut.

I'm thinking something like Thanos in The Avengers. BP2 ends with us learning that Latveria was indeed responsible for
T'Challa's death and for framing Atlantis
and in the first stinger scene we see Bell/Von Bardas walking into some hidden room covered with advanced tech and we see Doom from behind...they quickly go over the next move in whatever game Doom is playing and he turns to the camera...

It would be crazy. And honestly what better intro for Doom than as the man behind
Black Panther's murder?

Talk about establishing a supervillain properly and right from the start showing what he's capable of.

Well if Lake Bell is definitely playing Lucia Von Bardas then at last we see getting our first mention of ANYTHING tied to Latveria. Of course that would have to mean they keep her tied to that country and of course if she is in it and tied to it, then Doom is obviously involved...

Second, in a new interview Tom Holland excitedly said he knows who bought Avengers Tower...I am sooo hoping with Jon Watts doing the F4, that No Way Home reveals that Easter egg that it was that blasted Richards to have bought it

I like the BP ties people have brought up and maybe that's where it starts. I really think people need to stop complaining about having nothing interesting in MCU (because I think the last few movies HAVE been interesting and the upcoming slate looks even better). I think a lot of it is frustration that we aren't seeing the top tier characters Marvel got from Fox (man, it seems SO long ago) and I, myself, share that frustration, BUT I'd rather wait and have the intros done right. A BP/FF tie like the ones being discussed would be pretty awesome. I think, given Marvel's track record, we just need to be patient and trust the process. The last thing we need is another (not so) Fantastic (don't remember where the 4 went and, honestly, have never even seen the movie).
