No, it probably wouldn't have, but PR wise he would've looked better now.

that was a boring as hell match.... tie was decided in the first leg.... Roll on Monday

Not his fault, no. But was he the only Arsenal player to refuse to cut his wages during lockdown? Or was it Guendouzi also?

The players aren't obliged to take a wage cut though anymore than the day to day staff, at the end of the day Ozil still has bills to pay like everyone else, they're just more expensive bills. I wonder did Kroenke take a wage cut, you can guarantee he was claiming some sort of wage from Arsenal as were all the board members.

It's like that argument Matt Hancock put forward, criticising footballers as if it was their duty to take a wage cut to help out.. he kept his fat gob shut though about his millionaire & billionaire friends though that own, run companies & what they were doing to help out.

unfortunately my Monday nights are booked out with a gaming session

No way Utd weren’t going through after that score one away from home haha. Not surprised that neither team could be arsed today.

Well I hope you enjoy it, and are able to catch the HLs of a victory.

Yeah, it's always a fun night. Probably gonna have my bro messaging me the important bit... or, like the last time we played on a Monday, someone in the group watching it in the background and reporting to me

Well, no, no one is obliged to do anything.
But perhaps, as a show of solidarity from the teams highest earner, cutting his wages with the rest of the team would've been a good look.

Anyway, I realise it looks like I'm trying to blame Özil for this, and I'm really not. Kroenke is definitely to blame for this, and it's gonna look absolutely terrible when they go out and spend many, many millions of pounds on whatever player they are going to sign.

So you want a symbolic gesture from an employee that will save no one's job, but will save an insanely rich jackass from having to pay the one employees they can't just fire? An employee who in particular gives a lot to charity no less.

I get what you're saying, if he did refuse a paycut completely I would guess it's due to some underlying bad blood between himself & Arsenal. Under both Emery & now Arteta there has been a constant stream of reports how he feels like he's been treated unfairly by the club, with his gametime severely limited for a player of his pedigree.

Ozil's an easy target for the blame finger because of his high wages however he's not responsible for the redundancies, lets get real for a club like Arsenal, the wages of those 55 people are absolutely nothing. At most, they're £3m a year, but realistically more than likely about half that around £1.5m. Stan Kroenke probably has the money that would cover their wages for at least a year in the cracks of his sofa.. with some spare change.

I get that finances at the minute are currently not certain & I get that even though he's a billionaire he can't endlessly fund people's wages if he's constantly losing money, but surely he or the club can afford to take a hit of a few million pounds for at least 1 year to keep those members of staff employed, the club went hundreds of millions into debt for their stadium.

I meant to add this to my post also, Ozil taking a paycut probably wouldn't have guaranteed those 55 people kept their jobs anyway. Most of the paycuts players took around the league were to safeguard the jobs of staff like this at the clubs up & down the league until the footballing season returned & they were guaranteed their TV money.

It has returned, next PL season starts soon, there really should be no reason for any clubs to be cutting jobs of staff like this IMO given how small their wages are in comparison to the overall operation. Especially not at the bigger clubs & to double down, especially not when you've a billionaire owner also.

Haha, OK!

The PL have voted to go back to 3 subs next season. Shame as I quite liked having so many options available lol.

I always felt the "MU are getting squeezed for money" argument is pretty silly because half the time we choose to go after expensive players. Maguire and Sancho are just 2 examples where we go for players who would cost just the same if City or Liverpool were trying to make a deal.

I have a strong dislike for City but I gotta give them some props for their transfers because I can't recall them paying anything close to what we paid for Pogba, Maguire or possibly Sancho. The winger they just signed, Torres was like 37m? I feel like they make smarter signings for 30-40m (maybe 50m at most) and they trust in those players evolving and becoming top tier players which to be fair has worked pretty well.

When you go after the hottest prospect in Europe (Sancho), or a top3-5 (at the time) midfielder in the world (Pogba), or the highest rated English CB in the league (Maguire) and these players are also under fairly long contracts, of course it's gonna cost you.

One of the highlights during the transfer window for me is reading about the teams that scoop up a quality player for 10-20m because they have 1 year left on their contract, or getting someone for free because their contract expired. There's some clubs actually being very clever in the transfer windows and not just throwing money out there. :p

Rumours Aubameyang is signing a new contract at Arsenal.

Wolves beating Olympiakos! Hope they win.

Wolves are through to the quarter finals after winning 1-0 and 2-1 on aggregate. They really are a solid team.

Wolves & United can't meet until the final IIRC?

The money they pay to agents and salary make that very easy.

I believe Torres cost them 20m.
