Its elitism, pure and simple. Anything fantastical is intrinsically worthless compared to, say, a somber meditation on the futility of achievement during the last days of a dying father.

heh Reminds me of one of the Art Schools I tried and didn't like in Chicago back in the 80's. MOST of the teachers were against all fantasy artists and yet some of the artists like Frazetta, Boris, Hal Foster did better than most Classic artists. Pointed out to one teacher these artists that you say aren't artists make thousands for ONE cover and here YOU sit teaching us? wasn't long after I quit and went to the Kubert school. lol
