They are not always, but they have been lately yeah. Instead of having a PS Plus Driveclub edition just give the whole game for free. Or maybe a few months of Plus? It seems Xbox is becoming more generous towards it's users and PS is becoming more alien. I think it will fluctuate in the end. Sometimes you'll get stuff, sometimes you won't.

It really seems to boil down to arrogance.

When they do well, they say **** you. And vice versa. Same with Microsoft. You'd think these companies were run by 10 year olds.

That was a hack into the system. This isnt. Big difference.

I wonder if theres some way to sense if the servers are being overloaded by a source and to immediately shut down that connection if there's suspicious activity. Probably not as I imagine it would already have been done
We can get a man in the moon. Someone can figure it out.

Wait, didn't they also hack into the system? I read they got a bunch of credit cards and passwords.

I think you're talking about Anonymous, they tweeted out that they got a bunch of Amazon, PlayStation, XBox Live, Hulu Plus, Walmart, and even porn accounts a couple days ago. I can't find any information on it but my friend told me that most of those weren't legit and old expired accounts and that I had nothing to worry about. The world we live in I guess.

well, I changed my passwords just in case.

They cant and shouldnt give DC Plus edition for free. That would be like a big F U to those that actually paid for it and supported the studio despite all their issues. They will essentially have paid Evolution to beta test their game for them. I think current DC owners would be justified in being upset if that happened. They defintely need to give free months worth of Plus for every month its been delayed at the very least

Quite illogical how they all seem to rest on their laurels when they get to the top. I'd include Nintendo. All 3 are as bad as each other. It's good to see them work hard when they are behind but when they get in front it's as if someone new and very dumb takes over.

Microsoft was definitely working hard this gen. But when Sony was behind they weren't even trying that hard. Exclusives were being lost left and right and it took them 2 whole years to make it affordable in the U.S. By then though most if not all exclusives were lost and it wasn't until 3 years where the Ps3 finally stopped being a laughingstock.

In other words, Microsoft did more to keep up in 2nd place than Sony did when they were in 2nd (or actually 3rd) place.

Eh, I think the loss of 3rd party exclusives were inevitable with the way the market was changing. I don't think there's anything they could've realistically done to keep most of those games exclusives. I think the choice to focus more on 1st party offerings, that were totally exclusive even in relation to PC, was a much more sound one than chasing moneyhats for 3rd parties.

true, but you really never know. most of the games that were planned 3rd party exclusives that ended up becoming multiplatform probably had to do with the fact that the Ps3 had a very limited installbase. for example, vf5 sales did not meet sega's expectations, and that's why a 360 port was made. but you can't say those who were early adopters of the Ps3 weren't pissed off that exclusives that they may have bought the console for ended up jumping ship.

Considering how much more influential the western market became last gen, and how the the Japanese market more or less became irrelevant to the console scene, I really don't think there was any other way that could go. Sony made a better decision with putting their money toward 1st party development over trying to chase shaky 3rd parties that were starting to focus more on the west than ever before.

In fairness to Nintendo, they really have never done the logical thing since the SNES (saying no to disc technology, starting a fight with Sony, refusing to use normal sized discs for the Gamecube, the Wii... period, etc). Nintendo does what Nintendo wants. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it does not.

You have to wonder what place Microsoft would be in now if they had someone as in touch with the consumer as Phil Spencer in charge when they were developing the Xbone. Who knows, we might not even be calling it that.

These were actually logical decisions at the time (though calling it a "fight" with Sony is kind of...odd, unless you consider all business 'fighting'), even if they were bad in retrospect. The rest of this, though, I can't argue with. Especially the mini-discs with the GCN. That was dumb.

Perhaps this had to do with me being away for a few days, but I didn't even notice PSN being down in all honesty. Did it only affect online gameplay?

Others have mentioned it since this post was made but Sony fought back hard and smart by developing a whole stable of quality 1st party games and remember Microsoft were also losing major 3rd party exclusives during this time. Many people were writing off Sony back then and they came back to level things off and put themselves in a position where they could take advantage if MS F'd up, which they decided to do totally. And within a year of that domination the execs have moved on and Spencer has set them back on a good path, while Sony have started getting complacent. Surely one day one of these companies will learn. Whoever learns 1st will dominate for a long time.

I don't really want to keep changing consoles every gen. I chose Nintendo with SNES but then PS1 happened and totally changed gaming. I went with Sony then they let me down badly with PS3 in the early days. The 3 month delay in Europe was an absolute killer as I had tonnes of free time then. And then I went with 360 and all these strange unpredictable decisions and policies emerged for the X1. I don't like having to think and these idiots collectively are forcing me to!

I honestly don't know what they were thinking with the Xbone. The PS3's design is kind of understandable, since to some degree they were trying to duplicate the success of the PS2's DVD player with a Blu-ray player. Problem was, Blu-rays were selling terribly. Plus it did actually employ a lot of impressive new features and technologies (rechargeable wireless controllers, WiFi, HDMI, Bluetooth, Blu-ray, a hard drive, etc). The PS3 really was ahead of its time. So was it's price unfortunately.

With the Xbox One though, it just seemed like the video game division was hijacked by the multimedia people who thought the Zune was a good idea.

Anyone recall there is an alternate timeline where the Nintendo Playstation must have happened? Can you imagine the domination Nintendo would have had on the market had they not royally screwed that deal up?

Well, we don't know the full details of the legal row. I.e. how much Sony wanted. But I do really wish that Nintendo would get out of the console business. Hardware wise, they have become irrelevant, but they still make great games.

Ironically, they will probably outlive Sony in the console market.

How does one recall that?

With the deal that Sony was wanting, it would've been a co-domination more than anything. I think eventually they would've split considering how both parties aren't exactly known for compromises.

Nintendo and Sony worked together for years. I always assumed it was just Nintendo being shortsighted and greedy. They tried to undercut Sony by making a deal with Philips (Sony's archenemy). That always struck me as acting in rather bad faith.
