New TV spot is great. The updates in the CGI are very noticeable and it's great to see that. Just picked up two passes to an advanced screening of GL from my local comic book shop.

When is this advanced screening that you speak of taking place? If you know.

So... some heads up on the running time for GL. I went into work today, and noticed we had tickets for the 2D and 3D showings up for the film.

Apparently, the film is a tad shorter than expected. The 2D shows are in one auditorium: 12:00, 2:30, 5:00, 7:30 and 10:00; ditto for the 3D shows at 1:30, 4:00, 6:40 and 9:15. So unless our system is updated with an official, longer running time, it appears that GL will be 90-105 minutes tops minus the 15-20 minutes of trailers.

I'm a bit worried now. GL has a relatively uncomplicated origin story, compared to some of the Marvel and DC heavyweights, so hopefully it won't be rushed or anything.

Look at the difference between the first trailer and the latest tv spot when Kilowog meets Hal.

Look at that first pic! I remember the first trailer where his suit looked like body paint. Now it really does look like energy, or emitting energy at least. They also did a lot of work on Oa, i'm guessing they wanted this new darker sky. Looks good.

Noes! I want it to be 120 minutes!!

Sounds very short.

I hope it is not case. Especially since Warner was never afraid of longer running times. Just as Fox gives X-Men: First Class an amazing 131 minutes running time, Warner pulls this?

Hmmm, I don't know about that. I hope it's not true.

The thing is, GL is an untested property. Films like Batman and HP can get away with a longer runtime since they're tested, reliable properties.

If the 90-105 runtime does pan out, hopefully the writers and Campbell were aiming for it and not because the studio demanded a shorter running time. There have been very good films released that were less than 2 hours long.

If it's less than two hours I'll be disapointed.

Theres a 2 hours and half space between those times. I dont understand how it cannot be around the 2 hour mark even if there's a 15 min trailer thing in between?

Really liking that top billboard with all the Green Lanterns in it.

Wow...Xmen is that long?

I wouldn't worry though, being short is sometimes a good thing. Might be better to have a quality 100 minutes with good pacing than a longer one that feels like it drags.

Because in between showtimes, theater maintenance has to go in and clean the theater and prepare for the next showing. I don't know how long that takes but it's something else that comes into play.

12. Green Lantern (June 17) - $130 million
Every week a new Green Lantern trailer seems to spring up, which reeks of desperation. With the movie's makers perhaps fearing a total fanboy affair, the latest trailer finally, if unsubtly, explains some of what the bejesus is going on via narration (at the expense of Ryan Reynolds' lead character), but this movie still looks like goofy sci-fi fantasy mumbo jumbo, riffing on Star Wars with its "force" talk and computer-generated alien characters. Green Lantern's power still isn't clear (apparently he can conjure whatever he wills?), and he seems to lack vulnerability. A clear, strong villain is also absent (beyond an amorphous "yellow" force), and that's a key ingredient to superhero movie success. Green Lantern seems most reminiscent of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, only less grounded. Green Lantern may be big in the DC Comics universe, but he's not mainstream, and it can't help to have The Green Hornet released recently. Reynolds' character looks like an attempt to duplicate Robert Downey, Jr.'s from Iron Man with a dash of Superman. Warner Bros.' sheer force of will may drum up a decent sampling. Bottom Line: Green Lantern's light doesn't seem bright enough.

Ouch. From Boxofficemojo.

Hope they're wrong.

But box office Mojo is known or having weird opinions on movies too.

They've said in every trailer I think what a Green Lantern's power is. I mean geez, what do they want them to do, recite it several times in a trailer?

Huge differences in there. Im happy to see the extra money made really great changes in the film.

Because in between showtimes, theater maintenance has to go in and clean the theater and prepare for the next showing. I don't know how long that takes but it's something else that comes into play.

I work as a doorperson during the weekend and concession during weekdays. Usually, there's a 25-30 minute window for us to come in and clean up before the next showtime. On really busy/messy weekends, it can take 15-20 minutes for us to get it ready. Usually, it'll take us 5-10 minutes for cleanup in each.

And I've seen several movies that are longer than what it says on the schedule. (Sometimes, there's only 10-15 minutes between showtimes because of the 'longer-than-expected' movies. That's the booking department's fault, not the theaters themselves.)

F*** Box Office Mojo. Those snide comments don't really have any basis, really. Those are really just the opinions of the person who wrote that. Unless they polled people and asked them if they do or don't know what the movie is about, it sounds like the writer hasn't been paying much attention to the movie and knows nothing about the story or the character.

Also, I really don't think Green Hornet will affect this movie's box office results at all. Aside from the color green and the fact that both characters where masks, they have almost no similarities (at least not Seth Rogen's crap version of GH). I don't think anyone is going to get them confused other than people who wouldn't go see a superhero film in the first place.

Box Office Mojo sucks. :o

I just want this movie to blow the box office up, just so I can be like "I TOLD YOU SO", is that wrong?
