so you're still leaning towards the PS4?

after spending more time with both consoles, I still give the PS4 the edge over the X1.

Well with that price drop and the bigger library, I have to consider it. He had a PS2 prior to his 360 and he may get some major nostalgic flashbacks.

well, you can't go wrong with the PS4.

and I believe you mentioned before that he won't have much patience when it comes to dl/installing games.

in that case, he'll enjoy the PS4 more.

I wonder what the BF deals for this year will be like.

Boom, bought a PS4. Doing all of the log-in, updates now.

Snagged the Uncharted edition with NHL 16.

I'm jealous of those who get to have the Anniversary PS4 edition, that looks awesome.

questions on the bundle

1: did you get it from game stop or a different store (I ask as GS is known to sell a disc for bundles)?
2: did it come with a disc or just a voucher for a download?

Are you suggesting PS4 takes LESS time to dl/install games than XBox? I've never owned the latter, so I find this rather shocking. Here I was thinking the dl/install time was a knock against the PS4.

Gamestop... It came with a disc and full packaging as well, as if I bought the game on a shelf.

My download times are good on my PS4, but I have a good internet connection (62 Mb/sec). And my PS4 is connected to the internet by an Ethernet cable and not wirelessly connected. A wired connection helps with speed by allowing the PS4 to get a stronger more stable connection.

My install times are good too. I can install a 50gb game in less than five minutes.

I don't have an XOne so I'm not sure how it would compare to my PS4.

well, I can only speak from my experiences ( but I also hear others report similar experiences ), but in general, it has been overall faster and more "efficient" to dl/install games on my PS4 than on the X1. And not just for the time it takes for the game to be "ready to play" but for the whole dl/install process to complete.

Now, I'm talking primarily about installing games from disc and dl/installing DLC add on. I don't do much dl/installing full digital games, but even there, I think the PS4 is a bit faster.

And both of my console are connected wirelessly to the same router.

For instance, this past weekend I tried installing the new Dragon Age Inquisition GOTY on both of my consoles. I wanted to directly compare the experience on both consoles.

I already had DAI installed ( with the latest update ) from before, so I figured with the GOTY, I'd just have to dl/install the remaining DLC content I didn't already have.

On the X1, though, it wouldn't recognize the GOTY disc and let me start the game. I had to uninstall the whole game, then it recognized the GOTY disc and let me reinstall the game. However, that meant I also had to reinstall the update, so that added another 2-3 hours to the experience.

Then, each DLC add on dl/installed one at a time. And I've noticed that's a thing on the X1. It can only dl/install one thing at a time if you have multiple things to dl/install.

So, on the X1, by the time it finished reinstalling the game and update and installed all the DLC add ons, it was a good 8-9 hours. maybe even more.

On the PS4, it was a different experience. First, the PS4 had no problem recognizing the GOTY disc, so I didn't have to uninstall/reinstall the game and update. so that saved time right there.

And for the rest of the DLC add on, the PS4 was able to dl/install 3 things at a time. And they installed at a faster rate than the X1. All in all, it took about 4 hours to install everything. versus the 8 or 9 hours for the X1.

And that's generally been the case for other games, too.

Not to mention, when you install from a disc, on the PS4, it's been a consistent 2-3 minutes for the game to be "ready to play" while it finishes the install in the background. AND the PS4 has no problem dl/installing the update at the same time it installs the game.

On the X1, to make the install process smoother, you have to first disconnect from the net, or else decline the update, so the system only installs the game. When I do that, it usually takes about 5-10 minutes for it to be "ready to play" depending on the game size. Then you have to reconnect to the net to download the update, which takes longer.

If you don't do that "trick," and you try to install the game from disc and download the update, that's where things can get messy and even longer. Since the X1 apparently can only dl/install one thing at a time, it will try to dl/install the update 1st before it installs the game from disc. And in that case, it can take MUCH longer for the game to be "ready to play," sometimes several hours or more.

So, overall, yes, I've found the PS4 to be much faster and efficient at downloading and installing stuff than the X1. at least in my experience.

dumb question time I am going on vacation to LA for 2 weeks starting Sat. I have Plus if I add me as a user and sign into my account I should have plus and all my cloud saves on my brother's PS4? That way I can bring some of my games with me and leave the PS4 at home in NY?

I'm not sure if it's changed for PS4, but I know you can have your account active on 2 consoles, just as long as you activate them and de-activate any other consoles that may have it.

MY PS3 Blu-ray drive crapped out last year so I borrowed my friend's indefinitely and have them both hooked up in my house and I move from one to another occasionally, depending on which games I have installed on which console. So as long as you don't have your account tied to another console already, you should be able to. The only issue you might run into is that automatic updates to your PS4 in NY might be turned off if you turn them on with your brother's PS4. But again, they may have changed that with the PS4, I'm not sure, but that's the only issue I've noticed with having two PS3s.

Since there was just a price cut, I really just expect retailer bundles. Buy a PS4 and get a free game kind of stuff. I wouldn't expect a lot more honestly.

I really hope to see something similar to their Last of US/GTA V bundle. Had I had the money or a job at the time, I would have definitely jumped on that. My girlfriend's mother did for her son and I was extremely jealous because that's an awesome deal. I just don't know what two games would be the equivalent of that deal now.

well, I just saw an article saying Dell will (might ) have a BF deal for the X1.

think it's a 500GB bundle with GOW AND Fallout 4 for $300.

I could see something similar from Sony. maybe not the $300 price but bundling 2 hot games with the console plus extra accessories like a controller or PS+.

I'm so happy I never played the Uncharted games before, it's wonderful playing them now. They're so beautiful and rich...

Also, I haven't bothered since my MBP is hooked into my tv always... is the PS4 easier to 'search folders' in external HDs than the PS3 (which was incapable to read files unless they were dumped into the main 'part' if the ExHD').

Just got my Media Remote for the PS4. I like it. Similar to the PS3 one just lighter and thinner.

Does pressing any button on the remote turn the console on? I hated that about the PS3 media remote. Cant count the number of times I accidently turned on my ps3 because I picked up the remote and accidently tapped one of the buttons. Id prefer only one button turn the console on and not every single one of them.

Sadly yes. I hate that too. The PS4 one does the same thing. I truly do not get the reasoning behind it.
