Infinity War Captain America|Steve Rogers - Chris Evans

In CW Tony did make a remark about "Sometimes I want to punch you in your perfect teeth." He also said "Oh really? You two knew each other? He never mentioned that. Maybe only a thousand times. God, I hated you."

These remarks make me think there is a jealousy there. Emphasize the word "perfect" in the first quote, and why would he hate Cap because his dad talked about him constantly? It's because his father never showed respect for Tony when Howard was alive, but he adored Captain America, this perfect man. So I think for Tony, Cap represents this symbol of what he could never be, and thus why his father never respected him (in Tony's eyes).

I hear you, and Im not saying this side of things doesnt exist.

I can find several quotes where Tony speaks and thinks very highly of Cap. In fact I could say that Tony thinks so highly of Cap that it only made it hurt that much more when he found out about his parents. Clearly he feels that Cap betrayed not only him, but his father as well.

What Im saying is that "jealousy" is not what drove Tony's actions in CW.

The Accords, the fight at the airport, wanting to bring Bucky in, the fight at the end... None of it had to do with Tony being jealous of Cap.

I'd definitely agree that they grew fond of one another by the end of the first Avengers. There's lingering jealousy underneath sure but Tony had clearly grown attached to Cap by Civil War.

I would agree Tony is not trying to one up Cap out of jealousy as a primary motivator in CW, but he has underlying jealousy of Cap that is very deep rooted.

What's your favorite suit?

I loved the AoU/CW suit but if I had my druthers I would mix aspects of AoU/CW and his TFA suit.

Exactly. They are very different people and they clash and Tony will always have daddy issues and Steve is a walking reminder of that but the frift between them has zero to do with personal jealousy.

That's a really interesting observation. I gotta say, I never looked at the Steve and Tony dynamic like that before.

In Tony's eyes, Its almost a sibling rivalry dynamic with Steve being the "good son" and Tony being the "screw up".

I always looked at it as two guys, of two different generations, and outlooks, butting heads , but it never picked up on the jealousy or envious angle of it.

From the first Avengers film, we got the sense Tony had issues with Steve that related to his father. He basically berates Steve for being the super Solider a program constructed by Howard tech.

Interesting little tibit in this year's free Avengers/Captain America comic. Comic fans would know that for ages now the comics have been becoming closer and closer to the MCU and as annoying as this is (I'd prefer the two universes to remain separate) the comics haven't been doing too well lately (Marvel's own fault) so I get the reasoning behind Disney wanting to closer relate the two, aka so the comics can feed off of the MCU's popularity.

Well, the new Cap writer, Ta-Nehisi Coates, set up his new Cap run (which starts in July) by an organization releasing a bunch of Nuke clones on the populace. Those who watched Jessica Jones season 1 (and briefly in 2) should also know who Nuke is, aka Simpson, but the point of where I'm going with this is that Marvel has made Thunderbolt Ross Secretary of State in the comics now, too, and indicated that he's part of this secret team who released the Nuke clones...

...is this Marvel's way of indicating that the story with Thaddeus Ross, why he wanted the Accords so badly, why he continued to pursue Bucky and Steve so doggedly after Tony gave him proof of Bucky's innocence, [BLACKOUT]why, despite aliens attacking New York AGAIN, Ross still wanted Rhodey to arrest Steve[/BLACKOUT], is not tied up in the MCU? I think so. Truly don't think Steve is on the kill list for A4. I've said before that they haven't tied up the Accords storyline yet, that there's more to it and I stick by it. Especially now.

I recently watched All three of the Big 3 solo film and The two Avengers films before watching Infinity War for the fourth time and I gotta say that The evolution journey of Rogers, Stark & Thor has been quite remarkable, The characters have gone through a lot and I feel that Avengers 4 will definitely be more about these guys coming back to their roots and a true reformation of The Avengers. Part of the reason they were defeated by Thanos was partly because Earth Mightest Heroes were disassembled . Like the old man said “Together “

AoU and CW suits are the best but I don't like any of the helmets. In Avengers 1 when he takes it off the whole suit looks decent, that's how bad the helmet makes the whole thing look.

do you think they will even refer to him as Nomad in A4?

Eh... All I gotta say is, remember when Hela was going to appear in this movie because they hooked up Hela and Thanos for a story in the comics? How did that turn out?

Steve is not going to become America's Top Cop or whatever stupid idea from the newer comics that you're fixated on, he's not gonna be in some huge baroque plot to take down Norman Osborn who doesn't even exist in the MCU at this point. He's gonna wrap up his arc in terms that make sense in the stories the MOVIES ARE TELLING in Avengers 4, and that will pretty much be it. The movies are not the comics, thank god. Let. It. Go.

No.

Also: we'll see how they tie it up but it looks like to me that they are setting up Secret Invasion and it's not a crime to speculate. Which I will continue to do. Don't like it, you can just hit the back button. I'm not catering my responses to you.

We'll see. It's important to point out that Coates is also the Black Panther writer and a lot of his interpretation of Black Panther ended up in the Black Panther movie.

I would say that Coates' run did NOT end up in BP outside of the nanotechnology mask which I think might actually predate his time on the title come to think of it.

I'm still hoping we get a variation of this for Avengers 4:

Though I guess you could argue that small moment in IW was a reference to it, but I dunno. Cap's always had one dialogue scene with the villains in the Avengers movies and he hasn't had one with Thanos yet.

Why don't the Avenger movies showcase that Steve knows how to fly aircraft, and do they ever explain how Red Skull knows of Odin and how he knew of the stones?

I think the moment with Cap in IW was definitely a reference to this scene.

The image also reminds me that Ron Lim is among the most boring, workmanlike artists ever employed by Marvel. I don't think George Perez is all that great either, but at least he obviously puts a lot of work in.

Oh for sure that stand off certain mirrors that.

You know though, Steve has been on the run and been an enemy of some form of government since TWS, and then he has become a fugitive since Civil War, will we see him become honored again in A4?

And, why does the regular public seem to not like Captain America? His movies are have the lowest box office, and he gets the most hate out of all of the Avengers on social media. And why did Marvel start this rivalry between Steve and Tony to begin with?

I don't know where you're looking but from everything I've seen Cap is way more popular than Tony. I see a lot more Cap merch and a lot of love on social media. I've experienced and others have recounted that he got the biggest reaction when he first showed in Infinity War. His movie trilogy is considered by many to be either the 1st or 2nd best comic book trilogy ever. Two of his three movies are considered a standard for the comic book genre and I believe Civil War is the 5th highest grossing comic book movie ever (for now). I see nothing near hate for Cap.

When The Avengers came out, Cap was jokingly called "No one's favorite Avenger" in the Honest Trailers on it. That perception is long, long, LONG dead. Cap is definitely one of the MCU's most loved characters among fans and the GA.
