Superhero Cinematic Civil War - Part 57

I’m so stoked that the late great Dwayne McDuffie’s creation is about to finally come to life!

I’m so much more interested in a Static Shock movie than a Cyborg film anyway, but I wonder will this being set in the DCEU continuity or will this be set in it’s own standalone universe?

This is worse than when Peter Parker used Bing.

You remind me of Arrow season 1. The most unbelievable thing in the season, far moreso than arrow-catching ninja archers and earthquake machines, was that you had all these rich dudes and dudettes exclusively using Microsoft tablets and search engines.

Sonic? Superhero movie? Okay, I guess I can see that a little bit.

Lazy Sunday today and rewatching bits of The Defenders on Youtube, I really hope Feige has some near future plans with these characters because there's so much massive untapped potential here. Daredevil was fantastic all the way through but seeing these four team up against the Hand should have been EPIC. I wasn't as tepid on the Defenders season as a lot were, I enjoyed it for what it was, but definitely some big missed opportunities. And this fight should have been so much better:

Since 2010 the highest grossing superhero movie has been a Marvel movie...until 2020 came along.

:funny:

I really hope Sonics success does for video game movies what X-Men did for CBMs. There could be some really epic video game movies with the right people behind them.

Can someone explain why it is so important which sport brand he actually wears?

I'm not up on my "Urban culture 101" these days myself.

Someone want to answer this? As a person that has NEVER understood the obsession with ****ing sneakers and spending far too much money on them, especially among African-American and Latino-Americans who often could barely afford high end kicks in the first place... What's Miles' sneak choice signifying other than Marvel and Sony obviously working out a promotion deal with one company and then rolling it over to another one?

Issa joke.

It's not really a big deal at all. I really don't care other than the fact that other than the shell toe Adidas, I personally think Adidas are peasant shoes :ninja:

But it doesn't really matter. IT's just jokes. Just like Peter using Bing in TASM

The bolded is corny

It's no more silly then a bunch of grown ass people spending money on comic book issues/paraphernalia. Or people spending a lot on handbags. Or spending a lot on gaming systems. Or people spending a lot on overpriced phones. Or people spending a lot on (insert thing here) that isn't essential. I personally am not a sneakerhead, but it's whatever.

People splurge on things. That's their business. There's no reason to point out "Well these people can't afford these ****ing sneakers. Stop counting other people's pockets. That's clownery.

It's also silly to say "especially among African-American and Latino-Americans who often could barely afford high end kicks in the first place." Trust me there are also plenty of white kids who overpay for their sneakers and can barely afford them. There was no reason to specify only the black and brown people who do this. What was the point of doing that? Add that to saying "Urban Culture" We know what you mean by "urban" and sneakers fandom are not just an "urban" thing.

The Defenders was trash. I'm not gonna mince words. It was bad.

From it's terrible pacing (I know some try to claim "It was a slow burn." No...Just no. There's a pretty discernable difference between a slow burn and a slow piece of media. Defenders was clearly just slow), the character interactions being lackluster, to just about all the characters being annoying; it was a bad go at things.

I very much agree that The Hand vs The Defenders final fight should've been a lot better. I say this as someone who loves Wu Tang and has Enter the 36 Chambers as one of his favorite albums ever, the song was really out of place. The Hand went from these bad ass creepy ninjas in Daredevil season 2, to just being a bunch of bland normal looking people in Iron Fist and Defenders. And then the heroes themselves...idk it's just not cool to see a team up when 3/4 of the group isn't in costume. Jessica Jones looks like she's just gonna go for a stroll down the street.
It's been said before, but it seem like they were ashamed to be a SH show. From the constant jabs at costumes, to no featuring costumes, to not even having the one character who had a costume (Daredevil) appear in costume for most of the marketing was an odd move.

They should've a) gave them a bigger budget (how does Daredevil a show for 1 hero look better than a show for 4 heroes), b) gave them costumes c) had the characters be more likable, d) hire the same stunt/fight people as in Daredevil

...and then imo get better actors for Luke Cage and Iron Fist

As far as future plans? I see Daredevil coming sooner rather than later. There's even the rumors that he'll appear in Spidey 3. I'm not sure about that, but I see him arriving in the MCU proper soon.

Iron Fist we'll never see again I'm pretty convinced. Or at least not for a long long time. Especially with them promoting Shang Chi, another martial arts heavy hero and then the whole casting "controversy" I can see them just leaving him alone. Especially when his rep is so in the toilet thanks to the Netflix verse.

Luke Cage I can see him having a Disney+ show pretty soon. But not in the immediate future.

Idk about Jessica Jones. While the MCU is pushing women forward a lot, I can see them sitting on Jessica Jones because I think to do the character right you have to go to a dark place. And I don't mean "dark for the MCU" I mean FX/HBO levels of dark. And I can't see them doing that.

Although not a Defender, I can't see the Punisher coming soon either. Similar to JJ, the character is just too dark for the MCU. And on the other hand, similar to Iron Fist, the character has enough controversy around him that I can see Disney just being cool on continuing with him in live action. It's not like he has HUGE earning potential anyway I don't think.

I thought the interactions between Jessica and Matt Murdock were gold imo. Cox and Ritter’s chemistry really popped on screen. Its everyone else that was lacking. There were moments of greatness. The Chinese Restaurant scene is the highlight of the whole season but it just did not all come together. The budget was too low, the story was kinda weak and quite frankly I think Iron Fist was a poison that spoiled the whole brew.

Iron Fist was such a crucial component to this whole thing working and they F’d it up. It would have been like messing up Thor in the build up to The Avengers, imagine if we all hated Chris Hemsworth and Hiddelston in their roles, those pieces needed to work (granted, not saying TA would have been a total disaster in that case but you get my point).

Maybe with all this multiverse stuff they can find a way to bring Cox’s DD in the MCU. I’d like to think Feige had his ear to the ground and knows people loved him in the suit.

I'll never forgive Feige is they recast Charlie Cox

I like Charlie Cox as DD, but I hope they move on. Stop living in the past. There are plenty of other actors who could be good or great as Matt Murdock.

He had a good run. Really good run. There's no reason to shoehorn him in

Sidebar, I don’t know if this woman has the acting chops and I really detest that they are keeping her in that red wig, but Lord, Javicia is right up there with Michelle Pfeiffer as the most beautiful person to ever be part of the Batman mythos.

I want to go to Gotham right now. I need Disney to have this kind of energy when they cast Ororo Munroe.
