Hawkeye Episode 5: Ronin (Spoiler Discussion)

I wonder if they're positioning Kingpin as being the MCU equivalent to Norman Osborn in the comics.

They have avoided showing the old Stark Tower all throughout the series. Anyone notice that?

Wasn't much of a moment or payoff.

Also:

"Natasha and Laura. I'm sorry for what I'm about to do. I'm about to put a Ronin costume back on and try to scare people into not coming after me anymore. Yeah, that's gonna work."

It isn't really meant to be a payoff. It is a tease for the next episode, which he will be more involved in. I was fine with it

I'm kind of getting tired of teases. I'd like a show that's not building up to some big reveal or post credit thing.

The series is 6 episodes. They are not ending the show at episode 5. Every show in the history of basically ever tries to entice you to watch next week. This is nothing new. That is called television

I thought this was another terrific episode - I like seeing new ways of looking at the Blip and watching Kate and Yelena share some screen time. But I agree with the negative comments about the Big Guy reveal. I wanted him looming and scary not out of focus and photo shopped. Oh well, hopefully they will make up for it in the finale.

Great episode up until the obviously photoshopped picture of Vincent D'Onofrio, what next Charlie Cox coming back as Daredevil, stop getting my hopes up Marvel, didnt they get the memo none of this is actually happening its just internet talk. :o

If the photoshopped pic was all we got of him this season, I would be disappointed. But he is no doubt going to be in the finale. The scene is meant to focus on Hawkeye's fear of Kingpin. That is meant to be what makes us fear him from a story POV. Not the picture itself. I am sure his first proper scene will be great and full of intense fear inducing drama.

Plus it's a connected universe so whatever cliffhangers happen in episode 6 will happen in future MCU projects. Like for example, WandaVision. We saw Monica Rambeau being recruited by someone (probably Nick Fury, but it could also be Talos) and we have no idea what has happened to her until The Marvels, in which we expect her to have her full powers and hopefully different than Carol Danvers power set.

Also, the end of WandaVision was left with the disappearances of Wanda and White Vision. We'll find out what happens to Wanda in Multiverse of Madness.

Weird how slow this episode was given that it is the penultimate episode. Some of the talking scenes could have been shorter. Clint remembering Natasha felt flat to me. The action was okay, it does feel budget compare to mcu films especially in the movies in which Jeremy was included. Kate's mom and the boyfriend are boring.

I did like the opening scene with Yelena.

I actually didn't mind the reveal, it was different from what has been done before. Having him face the camera and do the a speech would have been more of the same ol', it's definitely what I was expecting but the blurry picture elicit the same excitement from me. I think that speaks a lot about the actor and the character as portrayed in DD series. I'm expecting seeing him in the opening scene for next week's episode.

So Yelena was hired by Kate mom through Val and they are both working for/with The Kingpin. In the years since the blip it looks like the Kinpin rebuilt his empire and could very well be the one putting together the Dark Avengers.

As for the watch, I'm pretty sure that it got knocked out of her hands once she engaged Maya.

Didn't they say he was going to be bigger? Although it was blurry, he looked the same, at least body wise

You think? Something seems off about him to me. Like his neck looks chunkier.

It's hard to tell. And when they said he was going to be bigger, I was thinking his body was going to be massive like it was in Into the Spiderverse.

I kinda figured the stuff about him wearing a suit to look bigger than life was a miscommunication around D'Onofrio having lost weight since season 3 and needing some padding to get there again.

Help me out with some blip logic. If you disappear and reappear in exactly the same spot 5 years later, what happens if there's now a building or something else solid in that spot now? Imagine you disappear while on a bungee jump or something like that.

That's probably my highest point of MCU interest right now as to what happens to her, and White Vision also.

Someone said that when Hulk snapped everyone back he added the caveat that It would be in a safe location.

How the gems would know is beyond me but that's enough of a explanation that it doesn't matter to me anymore haha

Ha, I don't really mind about these sorts of things too much. Just wasn't sure if I'd missed something on what they were trying to say happens - or if it was implied it would be like it was for Yelena for everyone else. As in you're doing something and see some weird grains floating around and without otherwise physically moving, 5 years have gone past. I loved how it was done here and was just thinking if that is how it would be for other characters and normal people in the universe.

I'm just glad that they didn't make him cartoonishly large like one of the rumors said. D'Onofrio already looks plenty imposing on his own.

When you really think about it the blip was harrowing. People died in plane crashes, mid surgery, highway accidents...when people say Marvel is aimed for kids it's like they don't realize a lot of the horrifying things that actually happen in the background that people who pay attention notice.

So basically John Walker is working for Kingpin? Because he was hired by Val, who hired Yelena, who is also working for Eleanor Bishop.

No I didn't get that at all. Val is separate from Eleanor and Kingpin. She basically just supplied a hitman for Eleanor to use, she doesn't work for Kingpin.

I mean there could be a connection, but my guess is that Valentina was like a subcontractor with lots of resources. People put out contracts to her, she pus dangerous individuals on the contracts.

Or I dunno, maybe she's married to Kingpin.

He's probably still married to Vanessa.
