The Mandalorian Chapter 20 Spoiler Discussion

I thought it was really nice for them to say sorry for Ahmed Best and give him a cool role, but at the same time... man this season has gotten so heavy on the fan service being front in center.

Also, I liked it better when the Mandalorians were more stoic. When they get more speaking lines and cliche dialogue they start to sound like generic video game characters.

Oh and now that Grogu has that body plate armor, I hope someone shoots him just to see him fly across the screen. :o

I like the idea of Bo Katan temporarily joining the cult. She desperately wants to lead Mandalore again, yet most of the remaining Mandalorians are obsessed with their past. Suddenly she is flung into a situation where they all accept her and where she can feel connected to her homeworld again, and people are angry that she's interested?

She was sitting in an empty mansion before, with no hope and no goal whatsoever. But she suddenly saw the beast of lore that shouldn't even exist. The very beast that is supposed to unite the Mandalorians! And then she just so happens to be in a position to rejoin the tribe with this secret information. Of course she'd be interested in that. And the show hinted at her going in that direction.

I imagine Bo Katan will find a way to make this group hers, honestly.. and I like that too.

Here's the thing, I can understand her being a bit lost. And I do see her encounter on Mandalore as the start of her getting her ambitions back. But her to sit there quietly and getting spiritual guidance from a Mauldalorian feels wrong. She was sounding very much like her sister in episode 2. And while I doubt she is going full New Mandalorian, I suspect she is heading toward a different version of their beliefs. Even if she is trying to be polite for Din's sake, the fact that Paz Vizla, of all the cultists, isn't trying to mess with her feels wrong. Lest we forget how we were introduced to him, by attempting to get Din excommunicated.

That was a nice touch yeah, great for him.

:funny: That needs to happen.

Maybe they can complete the triangle/circle by having Boba completely hijack Bo's solo show. :cwink:

She deserves her own show and maybe some of this is building to that. We do need more from Din though for the rest of the show, as you say.

I would probably be considered a casual fan too - I like watching everything Star Wars but my knowledge/retention is poor. That said I love Mandalorian culture and lore - they add massively to the potential of Star Wars for me beyond just having Jedi and Sith at the top. Loved them since Clone Wars.

Are they losing viewers? Didn't know that. Shame if so, but then they have to do what's needed to get viewers back and no reason not to have a stronger narrative (I enjoyed it but can certainly see why people would call this episode filler) while still showing what they're showing.

Maybe I wouldn't mind the culture and lore that much if we had an idea where all of this was going. Like where's the big threat this season? We're already halfway through.

And yeah last week's episode had the lowest rating in the entire history of the show. I read that the season already opened with a 25% drop from season 2 on top of that.

True, need to getting some direction from next episode. Bit worrying to hear on the numbers. I was hoping this show was going to be around for a ton of seasons.

I'm just waiting for Andor to come back and it's unfortunate for the Mandalorian for having a weaker season so far.
How long would you expect it to be till season 2 of Andor? Or is that date already announced?

Probably 2024? They're filming from November of last year to this summer.
Great if so, thanks. Wouldn’t have expected it any sooner. Feels like the Star Wars shows need Andor and Mandalorian to succeed and hang around a while for a solid foundation. Otherwise I hope one of the other shows like Ahsoka can break out. I definitely want a show for Bo at one point.

I assume they lost some viewers who were mostly there for "Baby Yoda." The novelty probably wore off for them, and also you can't just take a 2 year break and expect everyone to come back.

I would love getting a ton of seasons of this show, but only if it's good. If it turns into Boba Fett/Obi-Wan quality, no thanks...

Man, what's wrong with you people, I loved the episode. Complaining about writing, you guys do realize this is Star Wars?

Star Wars was never known for it's brilliant dialogue, or anything like that, but the OT certainly knew how to tell a story. This new season of Mandalorian it seems like they're not even trying to do that. Apart from the scientist episode, it has just been mindless fetch quests and obstacles there to generate spectacle with absolutely no narrative.

I doubt there was much chance of keeping them long term anyway. Oh if it drops to those kinds of levels then yeah, no need, but so far I’m still enjoying the season a lot and want more. When events aren’t happening in Mandalorian, it’s still fun with great visuals and action. Some other shows get too boring when nothing’s happening.

I don't mind what episodic content. But there are weaknesses that are beginning to show in the writing of the show. Nothing fatal at the moment, but it is something to be concerned about. They write these little side bits in episodes that are for no purpose other than fan service. The whole IG-11 stuff from the premiere is the worst example.

I am not expecting Andor here. I do have concern that they may be ruining any fun nuance to the Mandos and bringing them back to their most insufferable version. And Bo-katan embracing the Children of the Watch feels like character assassination.

The writers, directors and the main characters with the Mandalorian cult and their plotline:

I don’t know, man. The entire time watching the episode, I had this uneasy feeling I just couldn’t shake. Like, they’re clearly very weird and cult-y with how they operate, but the show and characters don’t seem to treat them that way. There’s this weird disconnect. I hope this season gets to a point where it shows them how they really are, or else I am not sure if I would be comfortable with continuing with the show.

Ahmed Best as a Jedi in that Prequel flashback sequence was cool, though. Nice to see him get a bit of redemption after his treatment by the fandom. So, there’s that, I guess.

Disagree a bit there. Star Wars, especially the OT, always had rather good dialogue. Sure you had the sci-fi nonsense, and yeah it's very genre, but the teachings of Yoda, the badassness of Vader, and Han's quipping is all well known and beloved because of it's quality.

"I find your lack of faith disturbing."

"Who is more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows him?"

"I know."

"An elegant weapon for a more civilized age."

There are a ton of great lines, but more importantly, it's all written to inform us about the characters, their personalities, and their philosophies. This show has demystified their own main group through throwaway NPC dialogue. Look at the Mando group in season 1 and on Boba, and compare them to what we have here. Night and day.

This was the same problem with Boba on his own show. As opposed to his deliberate dialogue in s2 of the Mando, a lot of his modern stuff felt like it could of been said by anyone on the show, and it wouldn't matter.

How does Bo-Katan not know any of these people? She was Pre Vizsla's right hand. She didn't twitch at all after hearing Pre Vizsla's name.

Nothing smells right about any of this. Death Watch, Children of the Watch, the Armorer, etc.

Think about this. Din Djarin was born on Concordia. Concordia is where Death Watch came from and started their coup against Satine. The Separatists were their ALLIES.

He was raised on Concordia, not born there. Death Watch and the Separatists were briefly allies. It didn't last long, and Dooku did try to kill Death Watch. We don't know where they snatched Din Djarin from.

There's just not a huge hook for the GA anymore, honestly. At this point even I don't know where this is supposed to be going.

I mean, I think we're in agreement, in general. The OT has a lot of incredibly memorable and brilliant lines of dialogue, and some clunkily written lines all over as well.

My point was just that, whatever you think of the dialogue, the OT were well written stories, and this whole argument of just accepting poor writing, because "It's Star Wars, it was never well written" is garbage to me.

It's all about Mandalore. Or Mand'lore, as it's spelled in the subs now.

Also, Bo Katan was definitely not happy to eat alone without her helmet. I can't help feeling that she knows more about the creed than The Armorer.
