Rise of the Beasts Transformers: Rise of the Beasts General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

They also mentioned that we would get some musical references to the 1986 animated film (which, considering some of the plot/characters/visual references in this film, kind of makes sense.)! If I had to guess which ones:

– Unicron theme anytime he pops up on the screen. Obvious.
– Autobot/Decepticon battle theme for the end battle of this film.

Those are about the only ones I can think of.

EDIT: Beat me to it.

I’d love to hear the Unicron theme in the film!

John Wick and Evil Dead managed really good legs in a very busy March/ARio so you never know. The embargo lifting 3 days before isn’t too bad it’s when it lifts the day before we should worry. Pretty sure Bumblebee did the same.
But John Wick and Evil Dead had a much smaller budgets and great reviews, which I can't see Rise of the Beasts having at the moment. Its marketing hasn't been great either. Obviously I can't know for sure but there are some red flags around this project. We'll see.

JW4 had a nice sized budget but we will just have to wait and see on the reviews and BO. This franchise has proven review proof previously so we will see.

Called it.

I wish one of these films would finally give us the Transformers main cartoon theme, but I’ll take what I can get.

Maybe we’ll get it in the animated film coming out next year, considering the character designs and aesthetic in that seem to be more reminiscent of G1. Seems like it would be more appropriate for that.

That's a very odd decision considering how much they're planning to homage Steve Jablonsky's scores and the 1986 G1 movie's.

Nice reactions.

I wonder if Wheeljack looks like Bumblebee because
in some of the trailers we quite clearly see Bumblebee blown to bits by Scourge. I think now this maybe Wheeljack who gets blown apart after being made to look like Bumblebee
.

That would be an interesting twist!

A potentially great Transformers, Spider-man film in the same month!

Praying for TMNT now lol

So, basically what I’m gathering from this:

-A lot of what we loved about Bumblebee, particularly the heart, is carried over into this film

-Much, much better than the Michael Bay films. Not as good as Bumblebee, but comes pretty close

-Probably some of the best, if not the best, human characters in all of these films

-Great performances from the main actors, overcoming some slightly clunky dialogue at times

-Great 90’s, hip-hop soundtrack

-Pete Davidson as Mirage is great, very entertaining and steals the show

-Great, solid, coherent, well-filmed action, though some shaky VFX at times. Has the bombast of the Bay films, with the clarity of Bumblebee.

-First act is really good, second act has some issues, but the third act finishes the movie really strong

-The main villain and all the other factions within the film are integrated very well into the story and serve their purpose well. Scourge is very threatening and effective as a villain.

-Great tribute and references to the franchise as a whole, as well as drawing from and owing a lot to the 1986 animated film.

Man, I’m just relieved to hear that it’s good. If word of mouth gets around, I can see this having a pretty respectable box office showing and making enough for a sequel.

On a critical perspective, the real barometer will be the actual reviews when the next embargo drops, so this still may end up low on say the Tomatometer.

That said, given that a majority of these folks giving decent to good reactions were around during the Bay years and never had a good opinion of prior installments before Bumblebee, then I can't deny that this is very promising. I know it's not a high bar but since I feel like Transformers movies should at least be on a level of fun kaiju films, as long as this is a fun decent action romp, then in my opinion that's a good leap from where the TF movies were at with Bay at the helm.

I'm not sure if I'll get to see this in theaters but I'm planning on seeing this at some point. I've been a Transformers fan since I was seven years old, and being a 90's kid, Beast Wars was my introduction to the franchise so those characters have a special place in my heart.

Glad to see this getting a good reception thus far. I was a big fan of they Bay films when they first came out but they haven't aged well for me at all. I still have to watch Bumblebee, but I've enjoyed the clips I've seen from it.

I go back and forth on my feelings of the first Bay Transformers film, but objectively it's far and away the best over his sequels. Bumblebee is a quality flick but much smaller scale. If you go into it like those early 80s episodes where they had focused on one Transformer and a human then in that spirit it's great. However it may be underwhelming if you wanted big battles and blockbuster fare. For me Bumblebee is legitimately good and my favorite TF movie alongside the animated one.

Bay’s first Transformers is legit good. It definitely feels like a modern (well, 2007 modern lol) update of the 80s Amblin films with some Bay action thrown in.

The rest of the sequels suck as they removed any of that Amblin feel.

Bumblebee is good too. But as stated, smaller scale.

This looks like it could be a throwback to the first movie. Which would be a good thing. There was a lot of goodwill coming off it and why the lesser sequels did as well as they did.

I still maintain the first Bay Transformers movie is a damn good movie. I got enjoyment out of the sequels, but they couldn’t come close to the original.

Bumblebee was awesome too.

The first is definitely the strongest despite my fanboy complaints like Frank Welker not being brought back for Megatron and some character designs lol!

This is a good observation. Spielberg seemed to be fairly involved with the making of the first movie and Bay benefited from his influence.
