Superhero Cinematic Civil War - Part 57

I remember when the extended editions for LOTR came out and the individual movies were still at least 2 sittings.

I know a lot of Snyder fans have come around to think that this is Snyder's swan song with the DCEU but those who haven't? I get that this movie just being on HBO Max is nothing short of a miracle. But, then you still need people to sign up/subscribe and want to sit through a 4 hour movie. And not just fans but regular subscribers. Then it's have to be some spectacular movie that appeals to a lot more people than MOS and BvS did. And then things would have to be put into motion, and maybe after some of the big stars finish their other commitments, they work around Fisher/Hamada, then you'd see a Batfleck spinoff/JL sequel in 2025?

Not sure I could do the full 4 hours in one sitting, I might need to break that up a little bit depending on pacing and the tone. If it's anything like BvS or MoS in either of those categories, then I won't be able to last that long without a break.

Congrats, Zach, you realized the basic fact of filmmaking that you can't just break a 4 hour movie into 4 parts.

Makes you wonder how long the inevitable Ayer Cut is gonna be.

4 hours without credits is too much for a cinema but fine for streaming.

4 hours is a long movie but as a Snyder fan I have been looking forward to this so still can't wait to see it.

I think now WB are putting all of their new releases on HBO Max though means they are less concerned about ZSJL and how it gets released than they were.

Just give us none Americans a 4K release please WB.

I honestly think you can put a 4hr film in a cinema. You would just have to offer an intermission. Likely would deter some, but I think the right movie would get interest.

Yeah I’ve done marathons in the cinema like X1-3 but I’ve not seen intermissions offered here apart from when it’s separate films. If they did that then it’s fine. It’s the break at some point during those 4 hours that people need.

Yeah. I think they could have made Endgame 4 hours and it would have still been massive. But I think something like that is an outlier. People would still flock to an event film like that because you’ve built up so much good will that they will gladly park their butts in a theater for 4 hours to see the conclusion.

But a 4-hour version of this Snyder cut JL movie? His diehard fans would go see it but that’s about it.

I know it’s not a CBM and it was a million years ago but wasn’t Kill Bill originally supposed to be a 4 hour movie with an intermission? That was QT’s original intention if I’m not mistaken.

I can easily do 4 hours of it, I could do 6, 12, whatever ZS wants to give us, I'm happy. Over the moon it's the full length rather than broken up.

Just curious how much action is going to be in it. I know we are going to get revised battles of the History lesson, Superman vs. the JL and Steppenwolf fight. But it's going to be more plot driven, expansion on Cyborg, Flash, etc.?

So NOW can we put to rest that "Marvel Studios productions are always the same" schtick? Sounds safe to me.

That's a rhetorical question, right? :p Of course its not going away, those claims were rarely in good faith, by and large. Winter Soldier didn't make them go away, Guardians of the Galaxy didn't make them go away, Ragnarok didn't make them go away, Infinity War didn't make them go away, the Defenders shows didn't make them go away. . . why would this?

Random thought:

We’ve been talking (and joking) about Morbius, Let There Be Carnage, Snyder Cut, but I totally forgot about The Eternals up until today.

Are we ever getting a teaser?

The fans aren't the primary issue. Its the theaters who would look massively askance at a four hour + intermission movie. They would need to charge essentially twice as much for tickets, because that movie takes up as much space as two showings of virtually anything else.

I get that argument, so if you don't want to show the movie, don't play it at your theater. Simple solution to me.

Feige cannot possibly be happy at that WandaVision leak. Hoo boy. Thats gonna be a mindblowing episode.

When they made the decision to move the entire 2021 slate to HBO Max, that probably took a lot of the pressure off the Snyder Cut to be the big crossover hit that would sell people on the service. Especially since, let's face it, it will likely be another highly divisive film like BVS or Man of Steel. So the 4 hour thing makes sense to me. The hardcore Snyder fans will be onboard for that and now they no longer have to worry about whether or not it'll appeal to enough of the general audience to carry the service on its back. Win-win.
