Thor: Love and Thunder | Official News and Speculation Thread

Interesting that "A Valkyrie" is listed. Looks like "our" Valkyrie is rebuilding the Valkyrie Corps!

I'm also assuming that we will be introduced to Gorr by seeing him kill the unnamed god. And the Spartan soldiers are interesting. Perhaps its going to be revealed that Gorr's quest has been going on for thousands of years, just as was the case in the original comic?
Yeh I agree with all the above. Valkyrie rebuilding her team would be awesome.

Gorr’s story traverses space and time so I guess that aspect could be featured in the movie, specially when they bring different gods, Spartans, Olympians…

A few other things worth mentioning:
“Shadow Creature” - Could very well be a version of the Black Beserkers, the beasts manifested from the power of the All Black Necrosword which fight for Gorr.

“Booskan Soldier” - No clue who those might be.
Any idea what "An Indigarrian Cave Dweller" could be?

I will be so hype if we see Spartan Warriors in the MCU.
Well if I’m not mistaken, “Indigarr” was basically a inhospitable planet ruled by ruthless gods, Gorr came in and wiped them out… Later on Thor came back with some different “god refugees” to help the planet out. So I guess they could show those angles of the story.

Sounds amazing!

I haven't really kept up with this movie and I haven't read the comic this story will be based on, but I wonder if we'll see [Shang-Chi Spoilers]
the Taoist Xian from Ta-Lo. Since Gorr will need to go after different gods, and they're basically another pantheon that while not introduced yet seems easy to introduce/tie into the broader MCU now.

In his usual evasive manner Kevin Feige has given a tiny look under the curtain regarding TLT at the very end of the interview.
You have obviously watched early rough cuts of all the movies and i'm just curious with the upcoming movies like Taika's Thor sequel, what is that movie... when you see a rough cut of that compared to the last one, you know what i mean, how does is compare and what was your reaction after watching it?

- Very difficult to compare any first cut to a final cut, we usually compare them to other first cuts we've seen... and everything is always rough and everything is, btw i'm not even admitting i've seen the rough cut of Love & Thunder, but in general you look for the promise that can be fulfilled and we've been very lucky that all of our rough cuts, no matter of how rough, hold great promise.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the vast majority of these extras are stunt people so it stands to reason that these characters will likely be doing stunts, fight sequences…

The visuals in Dark World are still the best i have seen in a Marvel movie. Didnt like ragnarok at all, the humor, visuals, story, no not that good.

Really hope this is a bit darker again, will see.

Wow. That sounds really interesting and meta.
It was meta as all hell, because I just had come off Thor where I had the exact experience of quarantining and then going to the cast dinner, and everybody's socially awkward because we've forgotten how to interact. And then you've tried to make this big, huge film in a pandemic. And then I go and make a film exactly about all of that. So I was like, 'What is going on?!'

Was The Bubble a little more relaxed?Thor**’s a Taika movie, so I’m sure his sets are fairly relaxed, but you still have those protocols.**

I mean, they both actually felt fairly similar. Taika has a very improvisational style when it comes to making even a big, huge blockbuster – he's taken his indie style in there. That's kind of nice. He's shouting things out, like, 'Do this! Walk over there!' You're just kind of going with it.

I cannot wait to see this, it’s gonna be absolutely bonkers. I can't wait for Love And Thunder as well, because I know Taika has said it's deranged.
Deranged is absolutely correct. I can't wait.

Oh... I think you're gonna be disappointed.

Dark is not in the vocabulary of Taika Waititi, if you look at his filmography. The closest thing he has to dark is Jojo Rabbit, but even then he made a mockery of one of the worst men in history and What We Do in the Shadows, but that's a horror comedy.

I do hope you're not one of those comic book movie fans who want their comic book movies to be nothing but dark, and moody and smiles and laughter are not allowed in these comic book movies. That is what annoys me about fans of comic book movies as someone who's comic experience was mostly Ziggy, Far Side, Peanuts and Garfield. If I wanted to watch something dark and moody without laughter and smiles, I'll watch a World War II movie like The Pianist or Schindler's List, both of whom are fantastic movies. A Superhero movie isn't that and shouldn't be that.

I think when the timing and the character and the situation is right, a superhero movie could be dark. It's all about the execution. For example, after four Thor films, I wouldn't mind a different take with Hemsworth in a much serious movie of Thor, just to see what could that be. We are in a time now where the superhero genre is expanding in more ways than one, a dark superhero movie could very well be in there somewhere.

Dark doesn't mean it's Rated R. I think the "darkest" movie the MCU has done is Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

No, i like some humor in comic movies, but i think the way they made Dark World is still the best way for a Thor film.

Not knowing much about the real plot and how things will eventually play out, we can still look at the inspiration behind TLT to find plenty of dark elements that should translate into the story. For example Gorr (his backstory, motivation and actions), the Jane Foster angle…

Of course the overall vibe should be of a fun action adventure similar to Ragnarok but we also know that it’s going to be a crazier, more emotional and heartfelt journey. So basically a heightened but more balanced version of Ragnarok. And I’m all for it.

Thor as a character has developed and evolved through the years, we’ve seen several different facets of our beloved hero but one thing that could be explored somewhere down the line is something like the Warrior Madness for example which could add/explore some shades of grey within the character. That was one of my ideas in order to keep him fresh and interesting by further layering the character inside the MCU.

Let's be honest, this movie will be 100% comedy with a lot of meta jokes just like Ragnarok, there will be no darkness, no seriousness, and these things can only resonate when there is room for them to breathe, and we know Waititi will diminish all those moments right away with some stupid jokes.

Glad to see that you've time-travelled back from May 2022 to tell us what the movie will be like.

Me being serious - Ragnarok had lots of fantastic comedic moments. But Waititi also managed to incorporate many serious and touching moments into the film, including Odin's last words to his sons, his "God of Hammers" pep talk with Thor, the death of the Valkyrie, Thor and Loki's elevator confrontation, Hela's revealing Asgard's true legacy, and everything involving Warrior Monk Heimdall.

And the "joke" by Korg when Asgard is destroyed is actually brilliantly constructed dark humor that defied expectations - Of course they aren't going to REALLY blow up Asgard! - and went over the heads of a lot of viewers. You can tell its not a "joke" by Taika cutting to the pained looks of Thor and the Asgardians. The silence in my theater gave it away as well.
