So for anyone interested and I'm aware this probably goes to show I've had way too much time on my hands, but for the past couple months (when I've had some down time/was bored) I went through
(a less than stellar - not exactly legal - downloaded copy of) the movie and came up with a rough estimate of the number of lines of the main players and a few of the side characters.
Note: I didn't feel comfortable considering a 'line' a sentence because there are incomplete sentences (if someone interrupts) there are single word lines, there are multiple sentence chunks that I just didn't feel like they should be 'broken up', etc... so I opted to define a "line" as anywhere from a single word of dialogue to an entire chunk of dialogue so long as there was no significant and/or scene breaking action that occurred during/after it (so, for example, Loki's entire thing to Widow starting with the "Can you wipe out that much red?" to the end of it when he calls her the not so nice word, I constituted as a 'line') I know, probably not fair since some characters do have huge chunks that probably should've been broken up into smaller 'lines' - but this is how it worked out with my initial run through.
If anyone has better suggestions on how to more accurately count, I'm open to them. Once the DVD/Blu-Ray comes out, I might revisit it and clean it up a bit. That, or I might leave it as it is. Again, this is just approximate, there are some scenes where people are talking over each other (i.e. the argument in the lab) that made it difficult to tell exactly who was talking.
From most lines to least:
- STARK/IRON MAN: 166
- ROGERS/CAP: 127
- NICK FURY: 115
- NATASHA/BLACK WIDOW: 99
- BANNER/HULK: 80
- LOKI: 70
- THOR: 51
- PHIL COULSON: 50
- BARTON/HAWKEYE: 41
- PEPPER POTTS: 30
- MARIA HILL: 28
- WORLD SECURITY COUNCIL: 19
- ERIC SELVIG: 18
- JARVIS: 12
- THE OTHER: 8
Again, for anyone who was in any way curious about those types of numbers. Feel free to mock me now
