Rise of the Planet of the Apes - Part 2

That's great news. I'm very interested to see where they take a sequel.

I can't wait to get the Blu Ray to watch Rise again.

That's great news. I'm very interested to see where they take a sequel.

Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa have said they wrote the movie with two sequels in mind. They just structured the movie as a one-off in case it wasn't successful.

I would say they're working on a treatment for a sequel right now. As soon as they have something that satisfies both the studio and director, I wouldn't be surprised to see this fast-tracked for an August 9, 2013 release.

Looks like a sequel is taking shape at Fox. The studio has locked in Andy Serkis to return, a multi-film contract that ensures him a seven-figure salary. Rupert Wyatt's contract includes a sequel option, so he's returning as well. Screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are returning to write, alongside the original producers. They're in the idea stage, so no release date or production date is set yet.

Fox will also organize a big Oscar campaign for Andy Serkis' performance as well.

Awesome that they are doing another one, cant wait to see what they come up with for the sequel, made up Serkis is back, he was an integral part of what made the first movie work.

Looking forward to a sequel!
This was a movie that really surprised me in how good it was. (same deal with Real Steel)

Phenomenal that he's back and good for Fox organizing the oscar campaign

I'm really excited for the sequel! Rise was such a great movie.

This is good news. I wonder if they'll pick up where they left it or jump ahead a few years.

I hope Fox follow through with a full campaign to get Serkis an Oscar nom.

i hope they jump ahead and show the apes more evolved and the humans on the decline.

I'm sure they'll go more into detail how the exposure of the virus has affected human kind. It would definitely be great to watch as the apes are rising.

I would love to see in this one Caeser getting the apes to help humanity try and overcome the virus, which leads to discontent in the ape community as well as the humans and which could lead them to (nuclear) war possibly at the end of this movie or even in the 3rd movie.

Either way, I cant wait to see what they bring to the table in the sequel.

I would love to see Andy Serkis get an Oscar nomination for this. It could really open things up, especially as we continue with the trend of mo-cap performances in movies..

I remember reading the version where [BLACKOUT]Will Rodman dies.[/BLACKOUT]

It had a few other differences as well. What I believe is the biggest loss is the bigger empashis played on Koba's manipulative and violent nature, and his obvious plans to betray Caesar and take over the apes.

^Oh I dont know, from the little we got of him in the movie I could tell he was an evil bastard and will at some point come into conflict with Caesar, I never read the script I just guessed this from what I saw in the movie.

Is Serkis is submitted for Supporting Actor, and he get great 'For Your Consideration' campaign, he can get in. This year the Supporting Actor race is a bit weak.

can you explain why you think an actor shoudl get an acting nomination when the movies character performance is a combination of actor and cgi artist?

just asking what is your opinion on this.

and maybe another question. if Serkis is such a good actor how come he was not in more bigger movies since 2001?that are not from WETA and Jackson. strange isnt it?

^Its not really that strange, in all his mo-cap performances he has been brilliant, but we never get to see his face and in real life he doesnt exactly look the Hollywood type. He was in The Prestige remember.

Thats not happening :o. The oscars don't really consider mo-cap to be "real" acting. If anything he should have been nominated for his role as Gollum. I think that maybe the academy should consider having a new category were they include mo-cap performances as well as voice acting. I always felt mo-cap and voice actors deserve more recognition then they get.

^Agreed, in fact its probably harder for mo-cap and voice actors as most of the time they have nothing to react too, its all about imagination for them.

Lol at him being supporting actor... hes the effin starring role of the film imo!

I think he will get the best supporting nomination, they said a couple of days ago that they would launch a big For your consideration-campaign around his performance.

everytime WETA worked on the effects.and everytime animators from WETA worked on the CGI character. its a lie that 100% from Serkis is on Gollum and Caesar. sometimes animators animated some scenes without Serkis .Jackson knows this. animators at WETA knows this. the fact is that its a CGI creation that you see on screen. a lot of people worked on one character.its not that simple. its not just digital prosthetics. .

when Serkis smiles the CGI character doesnt smile. animators at WETA need to translate it. it takes months. and sometimes it doesnt work so they animate it by hand. and it looks different then what Serkis did.

so it would not be fair to give him an award for a character that was created with a team of over 200 people.

if they would use 100% from Serkis i could accept it. but its not 100%. this is a lie for promotion. ask an animator from WETA

in LOTR they didnt use mo cap for Serkis face. every second of Gollum was hand animated by the animators. and a lot of times Jackson worked alone with the animators without Serkis. over 50% of Gollum is inspired by what Serkis did. i am trying to say that Caesar was more from Serkis then Gollum. so if you would like to give him an award then he deserves it mroe for POTA then LOTR.

you can not have a mocap category when a lot of times they dont use 100% from the actors performance from the mocap stage. the mocap is a lot of times only for inspiration. you really need to google more about mocap and how its used in hollywood movies.

i am tryin gto explain that its impossible to find the % what the actor did and what the effects company did. thats why they have the effects category and CGI category.

^I'm not following why you wouldn't be able to award motion capture actors. Clearly they would have to implement rules and regulations (just like they do for every category in the academy). Its also clear that it is not fair to lump them alongside live action actors since, as you said, animators sometimes add to a mo-cap performance; therefore giving them their own category while implementing proper criteria would be best. They could call it Best Digital Performance (or something similar) and yes it would award both the performer as well as the SFX team behind the work. I think a great digital performance is more than just photorealistic animation. The performer and the SFX team have to work harmoniously to create a digital character that feels authentic. Sure, the actor's performance might be used as a reference, but it still requires an understanding of human emotions and facial expressions in order for animators to properly convey this onto the screen.
