You know, I had this whole bit about Phil Tippett being a diva about his Robocop work ready to go, but then I looked up at my tv and saw the Russian gymnastics team performing.

Now all I can think about is how Putin probably has their families sequestered in a gulag.

Putin pushed hard for the 2014 Sochi Olympics, largely in part due to wanting the Russian team to win gold in hockey on home ice. When they lost to Finland in the quarterfinals, I assume their family members had already left for the border. They probably packed up and headed out the second they lost to the Americans earlier in the tournament.

Alright, I watched Excalibur...

I do appreciate that every single actor gave approximately 200% in this movie. Real full efforts. Either that, or someone spiked the water supply with speed. Liam Neeson looked like he was about to have a stroke in the Round Table accusation scene. Though I did like seeing Patrick Stewart, who never stopped screaming. "HE PULLED THE SWORD OUT, WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO!? **** YOOOOOOOUUUUUUU!"

1. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
2. Young Frankenstein
3. Dragonslayer
4. Excalibur

Sorry you had a bad time with it.

But yes I assume the biggest historical inaccuracy in the film was'nt armors or set dressing but in fact the level of cocaine in the bloodstream of the cast.

It was the 80's.

It's my favorite adaptation of the Arthurian mythology. But I've shared it with people before who didn't understand my enthusiasm for it.
It's not a cult fave though. It has a pretty high standing in the fan community generally, but I get it wasn't your cup of tea.
It's John Borman.

He directed ZARDOZ.

Ask @Black Narcissus

He was a crazy mofo.

That may explain it.

What say you of EXCALIBUR @Roose Bolton ? Classic or overrated? Overrated Classic? Out there nostalgia curiosity?

Not a specific favourite, but I have fond childhood memories of watching it, really at an age where it’s viewing probably constituted child abuse of some form. Acting, visuals and music made it pretty mesmerising, though I could see that Borman’s reach sometimes exceeded his grasp with the story. It wanted a trilogy.

But ultimately my biggest takeaway from Excalibur is that you shouldn’t ever bang your half-sister. Even if she is Helen Mirren. No good will come of it.

A well the Targs used to say "A half sister is a half measure" no?

Where's a combustible mage when you need one, eh Westeros?

Oh you must.

That said... Just cut the soundtrack some slack. I love it but it's not for everyone. Still... I can't see how it ruins the movie if it's not to one's taste.
It was like a bad porno soundtrack. :(

The only thing that keeps me from giving the movie a 10 is the music. It's not terrible, but it lessens my enjoyment of it. On a side note, I have a beautiful British movie poster of it.

We have a tornado warning, but there are no sirens going off. Also, the skies are clear. Show yourself, you spinny *****.

The director commentary on Zardoz is one of the funniest and greatest ever done. True shame that he never made his lord of the rings movies.

Actually, I'm not joking at all, I wanted to have that Zardoz poster on my living room wall, the one with Connery in that red diaper and ponytail, but my gal objected and truly made me see I was going off the rails on that. Heh. She was right tho! I don't know why I thought it be a good look. lawd.

I rather liked Excalibar. Quite a bit really. I just thought Merlin should’ve had a gray beard. Didn’t Boorman do some thing like the green or Emerald Forest or something like that?

Once the threat of wind-related death faded, I watched ET. That's the whimsical adventure I was expecting before. This wobbly **** screams at the slightest provocation, hates potato salad, and just wants to get drunk and watch TV. I understand this creature. I thought they Lucas'ed the movie and edited out all the guns and replaced them with walkie-talkies? The version on Prime definitely had shotguns, so I guess I watched the original version?

Every character in this movie was likable in their own way, which is an improvement over the last Spielberg movie. Though there's still that absentee father undercurrent, so that's consistent.

1. ET
2. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
3. Young Frankenstein
4. Dragonslayer
5. Excalibur

Also, I didn't hate Excalibur, I just found it ridiculous. It was fine. I'm sure there will be movies with Hulk Hogan that will rank lower on my list.

Scratch excalibur... Merlin with Sam Neill... thank me later.

Thought you'd have learned by now... I'm always right 60% of the time.

Oh yes... and Romeo Must Die....

Roose and I discuss Kiss of the Dragon regularly because of the FRENCHMAN.

even though hes not French born

Tchéky Karyo - IMDb

He was in The Patriot, where Jason Isaacs murders Heath Ledger. And that one dude gets a leg blown off by a cannonball. It's just a good movie. I don't understand if I should be cheering for the Americans or the British, though.

Bridget Fonda was gonna pee out the front of his store like a dog.

Clearly you should be cheering for the British... they have Lucius Malfoy AND Tom Wilkinson ... the latter being a 44 inch chest alum giving the brits a near impossible level to top.

It's true. I'm going to add 44 Inch Chest to the list. I mean, it came out in 2009 and I've already seen it, but it makes sense in my bones.
