Too be fair, this is the exact reason why movie studios prey on nostalgia and believe in the franchise. It is why we don't get new things all that often.
I watched JP last night, and I still like the movie a lot. My favourite section? When the storm hits, Nedry turns off the power and drives off to his death. I just love the atmosphere of the rain and the night - in particular the spot where Nedry slips down the flowing water. What a gorgeous set.
I watched JP like 3 times in the last week. Really bringing me back to my youth, which is probably something I need right now. It still amazes me how much of JP happens before they get in the cars. Growing up, I remembered every moment that happened after they enter the cars. But honestly, couldn't tell you much of what happened before that.

All I want Jurassic World to be is fun. I don't want a dialogue heavy script. I don't want to have the plot to go as deep as Incepton. Fun. That's all that matters.
I've seen several boards explode because of the "unfinished" CGI. The thin plot .. and so on. I always replied and told them to watch Jurassic Park again. Did Jurassic Park 1 have a great story? No. It was a movie that awed movie-goers thanks to the great CGI and suspense. Story was, it was pretty thin. Was it an entertaining movie? Hell yes.
Ofcourse Jurassic World relies on nostalgia. We are going back to the island from JP1. I mean ... how can it NOT be nostalgic?
Several reviews now claim that "Rexy" survives. Thats all that matters to me. I'd be gutted if she'd die. "Rexy" (for me) is such an iconic character. I remember that final roar at the end of JP1 like it was yesterday. Hearing that thunderous roar in the cinema was mind blowing. Here's hoping she DOES survive.

I think you are underselling JP. Personally, I have always found the story, while simple, to be riveting. The general execution of the film is what made JP work. You don't need a dialogue heavy script, the first film didn't have one. But the script still needs to be good. Then it needs to be shot well, acted well and edited well, at least for me.

It's his fault in the way he measures a good movie. There a different kinds of good movies. Some are good because of the screenplay and acting, some are good because of the feel of adventure, setting, visual style and just energy of the film. I am expecting the second type here, and I doubt to be disappointed.
It's a bit more complicated than that, though. There is indeed there's a difference between what a movie does and how wellit does it/how badly screws it up but each one of us has a different barometer for those two things (and some even consider some elements part of one group and not part of the other) generally determines their enjoyment of a movie and, probably, the quality it'll be in their mind.
I think a good movie's job is to communicate well with it's audience. If said audience is able to defend why it's good, be it in content or execution (or both, though that would make a great movie probably) then it's a good movie.
This looks like a a double-edged sword (because others who hated the movie could argue why it's bad) but I disagree. Every single movie (even great ones) has flaws, but when a movie can be defended/attacked in both directions it did it's job well enough I would, which is to communicate with different people and generate different interpretations. That just leaves each one of us' taste onthe table.
Note that I'm not saying "it's all about tastes then". You still have to argue why does a film work, using material from within the movie such as the footage/performances/music, if the intention of the movie (not the director, producer or anyoneelse, but the final product by itself - independent of outside influence) was apparently accomplished, about the emotions it generated in the audience...
O. I'm not saying JP isn't a classic. It sure as hell is. Ment to say that Jurassic Park was an original movie during that time. The story is "thin" but it's delivered perfectly.
Just saying that critics these days are hard to please. They seem to forget to just enjoy movies instead of burning them to the ground for no apparent reason.
the violence in JP was played for laughs.
Jacksons severed hand,
The lawyer being eaten by the dinosaur while he was on the toilet.
because of that it was easier to take kids to the film.
every time I see an ad for this film,
I feel like they are hiding the true intensity of the violence.
Also,JP, built the suspense up with things like the dinosaur tour without dinosaurs.
they held back on the reveal.
it is going to be harder to maintain the suspense because the place will already be crawling with dinosaurs in public view.
This film could still do it, but it will be challenging.
There is really no suspense on this end except for the I-rex getting loose and her basically taking dinos that are either kinda neutral or under our control and forcing them into her mindless army of hunters.

I was re watching the JP films this weekend at the end of LW they show a recorded video of Hammond and he is credited as 'DR. JOHN HAMMOND'. When was he ever a Doctor I always thought of him as a guy who started out with small attractions that got bigger and bigger that made him richer and richer and that he bought InGen and used it and his $$$ to create Jurassic Park or am I wrong?

You are not. He was a venture capitalist, nothing more. In the books, he says he thinks of science like a child would, "test tubes, explosions, and miracles." A doctor of anything he is not.
The scene you're talking about is the only instance in the entire franchise where that is mentioned.
