Stargirl The Stargirl News and Discussion Thread

Also, won't Cindy now know that Stargirl is Courtney? [...] Surely now she would reveal her identity to everyone in the same way that she posted the nude pics of Yolanda to everyone's phone during her speech. There's no way she would keep it to herself, because she probably wouldn't be like that in high school, unlike someone like Lex Luthor who would keep Kara's identity secret for his own strategic reasons.

Cindy admitted in 1x07 that she detests Henry and is only in a relationship with him to further her ambition to join the ISA. I got the impression that while Cindy enjoys simply being cruel, she released the photos of Yolanda for a strategic reason, to break up Yolanda and Henry. Cindy knows how to play the long game, and Courtney's secret is a bargaining chip that Cindy can use against both sides in the ISA-JSA conflict.

Also, what are the chances of getting Owen Wilson in a guest appearance as Stripsey's brother?

As a Justice League Unlimited fan, I'd like to see Owen Wilson as Vigilante if they could find a way to portray the character without his guns. Vigilante teamed with Stargirl and a certain sword guy in JLU, he has a retro costume that suits this show's style, and his motorcycle takes a lot of damage and could use a good mechanic.

How so? Doom Patrol S02 was announced few months after S01 finale aired.

This was filmed over a year ago so im sure the casts contracts should be expiring pretty soon. Idk...I like to be prepared for bad news and thenn be excited once the good news comes.

The fact that DCU hasnt announced the 2nd season renewal is slightly worrisome.

Covid had thrown a lot of productions into chaos. Add in the apparent success of it on the CW, probably some more things to work out than normal for a renewal.

Now that it’s become exclusively a CW show does that mean the budget will decrease? @flickchick85 you seem knowledgeable on these matters, I’m eager to hear your two cents on this.

Either way, I see this move as yet one of the many harbingers that DC Universe will soon be no more.

Great News.
Give us even more JSA Goodness for season 2!

‘Stargirl renewed for season 2’

‘Moves to CW’

I’ve been gradually growing tired of the outdated CW format for some time, especially with Covid-19 shutting down productions making me realize regular TV’s ever increasing obsolescence and online streaming’s future, and hearing this news just makes me want it ****ing die.

Seriously, the CW has become some of the lowest common denominator ****. Produce stuff on the cheap and put in as little effort on the writing, so it can make back it’s money. They’re practically the fast food of network television.

This show is one of the few pieces of media I look forward to every week because of how genuinely quality and expensive it looks for a comic book show (lord knows they’re few and far between right now) and I really hope The CW will make an exception for it. If they compromise on this, I will be extremely disappointed.

Wow....so be prepared for a move in production, cutting of budget, and likely less than stellar S2. Guess DC Universe really is dead. Likely nothing else will go into production that isnt already in production (Titans and YJ, and Harley will probably become MAX exclusive)

This makes me worried, because the show has been fantastic so far. CW has very limited budgets for their shows, which may become a huge obstacle as seen in Supergirl and The Flash. Not saying it being exclusively on CW will mean it will automatically become a terrible show as Black Lightning is fantastic, Legends of Tomorrow for a while was a entertaining but awesome show.

Budget and production quality will go down unfortuntely but I'm hoping the writing will still be solid as Geoff Johns will still be involved in the production and the writing of this show. Hopefully Geoff Johns puts his foot down and get's the show he wants without compromise. However it would have been better if Strargirl was moved to HBO Max as I fear that Stargirl will now become another standard CW show and it will be a updated version of Smallville so I'm hoping that I'm proven wrong on this.

It seems like the DCU app is closing down or moving most of their content over to HBO Max. I’m thinking is they’ll probably do it after Titans series 3 and S4 of YJ.

If YJ does go to HBO Max, I’m hoping they improve the animation. Sorry, but the animation for the new season was just abysmal, imo. HBO Max did promote itself as a platform that will deliver original content that’s production values are on par with movies and YJ could really use a big boost in terms of its budget. I would like to see a serious animated DC cartoon with movie like animation one day.

Great it's been renewed for season 2, but not so encouraging that it's exclusively on the CW. Will that mean it's going to become standard CW-type plots and production values? And will we be getting about 20+ episodes per season? I guess it does mean that they will almost definitely cross over with the Flash or Supergirl now.

Where does Stargirl film currently? Are we still going to be able to have these 1950s-looking retro sets and cars? Or is it going to end up looking like Vancouver and all the other CW shows?

Stargirl was shot in Georgia. Considering that's where Black Lightning films, this does not necessarily mean they are moving production. It also does not mean it is going to full 20+ episode seasons, as we have seen with Black Lightning and Legends.

Stargirl was shot mostly in places around Georgia. I provided a link from IMDB which it states the places they filmed at Stargirl (TV Series 2020– ) - Filming & Production - IMDb

CW actually owns filming studios in Atlanta which is where Black Lightning is filmed so it's possible that Stargirl could be filmed in Atlanta.

I guess Luke Wilson will get the Calista Flockhart treatment for the latter seasons...

Hope not. He's so vital to the show and is more important than the other JSA members. Calista Flockhart didn't want to move but if they kept production in the same place why would Wilson not stay?

Yep, I think a budget cut is very likely here. Damn shame, but hopefully they can at least keep the same creative team. If they have to move the production, even that much seems like a longshot. :(

But like @Sithborg said, Black Lightning still shoots in Georgia, so there’s still a glimmer of hope on that front. I also doubt there will be an expanded episode count.

I wouldnt be surprised if they expand it to at least 13-14 episodes depending on when they want the show to air. Though keeping it at 10 episodes should help maintain its current budget since im going to assume what it costs them to make 10 episodes is likely the equivalent to 16-22 episodes.
