Jurassic World: Dominion

I do think Jurassic World works really good as a companion piece to Jurassic Park in many ways.

I think so too, it's a logical conclusion, the issue is that like the sequel trilogy for Star Wars, there were really good ideas with an awful execution, Jurassic World wasnt bad but it definitely could've been better with a better director.

Jurassic World I liked, but I wouldn't call it good. It is somewhat a rehash of JP only much stupider, which was fine for that movie. But then FK dialed up the stupid to 11.

Dominion better be damn good. Battle at Big Rock gave me hope. Colin gets a slight free pass regarding Fallen Kingdom because he didn't direct it, but it was still his wonky script. I SWEAR the clone girl thing HAD to be a re-shoot. Look at the FK Super Bowl spot; there's evidence.

But Colin's on a LOT of notice due to Book of Henry (the Razzies ignored this WHY?), the Star Wars debacle (his Dual of the Fates script sucked and I'm glad Lucasfilm binned it; we could've had it WAY worse for Episode 9, guys, be thankful), and the "Hey let's set the ****ing dinosaurs loose on mankind without any oversight or regulation" bit. If we get something like THIS played completely straight, I'm done. NO TALKING DINOS. I don't wanna Blue become this series version of Caesar from Planet of the Apes. That's not what JP/JW's supposed to be!

Jurassic Park is a literal modern day Frankenstein story, about the hubris of man before the power of nature, Dinosaurs taking over the planet due to something like the new Planet of the Apes movies would fall in line with its central theme.

I totally get that feeling of “yeaaaah screw this franchise, I’ll never go see another one”. If it wasn’t for Dern, Goldblum, Neill having major roles, i’d be out. Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker (which I didn’t even see in the cinema) did that for me. I will literally never go see a Star Wars movie in a cinema ever again and I’m not even sure if I’ll take the time to watch them at home. Just zero interest. Terminator is another franchise that I’ll never touch again.

If they ever remake Jurassic Park I don’t think I’d watch it.

I can completely understand your reasoning here. I'm also one of those people that abandoned Star Wars due to Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker. I heard things, watched the Last Jedi and home and was finished with it all and haven't watched any since.

I suppose everyone has their opinion and reasoning for abandoning a former enjoyable franchise. But I don't feel Jurassic World has bastardized the franchise like Star Wars did. That, of course, is my opinion as I know many still enjoy those films just as I have enjoyed every Jurassic Park/World film so far. As I said in my previous comment, I was intrigued and enjoyed what they did with Fallen Kingdom, especially with the human clone and "when does playing GOD go too far?" theme which has been an ongoing theme within the franchise since the very beginning.

I said this earlier, but the Jurassic World sequels have good ideas that have been poorly executed. Just like the Star Wars sequels.

Nah Duel of the Fates wipes the floor with the Episode 9 we got. Hell, the concept art from that script alone is worth more than anything that JJ gave us in his 145 minute garbage fire.

Well, on second thought, that one shot of Sidious rejuvenated walking from the fog like some James Wan demon was pretty damn awesome. But then JJ **** on that too with what followed.

I wouldnt want the hybrids to talk, but this...

That has a lot of body horror and monster movie potential. And considering what has been established in this franchise its entirely appropriate that ingen or some other corp or defense contractor would try to hybridize and weaponize and experiment heavily with dinosaur genetic material. After all, none of the dinosaurs in this franchise are actually dinosaurs. They are hybrids and science lab creations made by mixing old dinosaurs DNA with whatever animals they had on hand to fill the gaps or make cool attractions. Creating dino mammal hybrids and freakshows and weapons is the logical next step for the evil corporations. Seriously, ingen should have been the Weyland Yutani of this franchise.

I'm 100% certain that the whole Jurassic World trilogy is just a distillation of that old Jurassic World 4 script.

The Star Wars connection has me more interested in seeing how Trevorrow delivers with this film. He's got something to prove now. I thought his script for Ep9 was surprisingly decent, but he normally knee-caps his projects with at least one really stupid idea.

I wish Jurassic World stopped at "they created a new scary attraction and it went badly" and spared us the silly military applications and raptor training. That's a simple story that dabbles in the questions of playing god pretty well.

Yes those were the weakest parts of the movie. You don't train a f'n lion or a crocodile to go into enemy territory and kill insurgents.

It's just so silly isn't it? Wild animals aren't efficient weapons. You couldn't ever train one to be an assassin, and they do less indiscriminate damage than a bomb would in nearly any situation. It is such a ludicrous idea that it lowers the IQ of the entire film for including it.

It's even better in Fallen Kingdom when the new Indoraptor is revealed to kill on command, but only after you point a gun at your target first. Just pull the trigger and then you don't need the other weapon that weighs 10 tons, eats people and craps everywhere.

Those are the ideas I think he took from the Jurassic Park 4 draft. They even managed to include the scary mansion into Fallen Kingdom.

Meh, I don't really think the idea of animals as a weapon is all that silly or preposterous.
It's already been done. Bats have been trained or attempted to be as suicide bombers, rats were successfully used as such. Dolphins and seals have been repeatedly used for various reasons and the most obvious of course is a dog. The idea of attempting to train one of the most deadly creatures that possibly could also be one of the smartest doesn't feel that far fetched to me in this day and age. Is it stupid? Yeah, Would someone try it? Yeah...

Not saying these movies have pulled off this concept in a satisfying and interesting manner but the idea could definitely be intriguing.

I mean, unleashing a pack of raptors on an enemy compound sounds efficient, no human life is lost and the shock and awe of it would totally work in succeeding to cause maximum carnage.

especially if private contractors use them as it couldn't be traced to them cause if a raptor days they can just have a self destruction bomb on it to hide evidence.

It's plausible enough to be a plot point at least.

The whole storyline of the raptors being trained and D'Onofrio's character wanting to weaponize them was one of the aspects I liked best about Jurassic World. Given how intelligent raptors are, the fact that they were trained like dolphins or tigers was a fresh take on them as opposed to the straight-up killers that the previous films made them out to be (although JP3 did see the raptors acting as more of a family unit that were for the most part only hunting the humans because they took their eggs).

I saw this and I'm rolling.

I'm just saying, there's still some room for this to be how Dominion goes.
