With the focus now on streaming the Mouse may be less dependent on the Chinese BO than they were in the Before Times. I don't think we should expect any radical changes to the company's product, but the Chinese government may no longer have the veto power that they appeared to wield in the past
Hence why I hope they do Young Avengers on Disney+. YA without Billy & Teddy's teen romance is not Young Avengers

As long as the film division will be chasing billion dollar films, China will be a factor.
Not saying that Studios should avoid releasing movies in China, but I would just like too point out that many DC movies were released without releasing in China, Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, Joker, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises. (The latest Zack Snyder's Justice league was not even streamed in China)

Joker, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises each made billion plus without China. Why Mouse is so dependent on China ? Just make a movie you want to.

Because there's a Disney Theme Park in China now. And they need to balance this multicultural business with movies that can hit the entire world with the right themes and notes.

Whatever works in China with these movies will help their platform, merchandise, and parks. It's a business, first.

I liked the new episode of Not Captain America, but it all just feels so sloppy. Like an extended Cap B-grade movie, sloppy written and directed. Just take the Flag Smashers. On paper they should work. But in practice, they are so all over the place, they aren't compelling at all.

Zemo is my favorite thing about the show, and I feel like it shouldn't be that way. Sam and Bucky are very inert on the show that is suppose to be about them. Zemo isn't that. I am sure they will kick it up a notch in the last two episodes, but then they should of made this a movie, not a show. Because we are well over 3 hours into this. Also the episodes just feel far too long. Like they have been padded out.

Most of us who are enjoying it in the F&tWS threads haven’t got much good to say about the flag smashers. They could have been really interesting with their motivations but they’ve not been executed well. Zemo is everyone’s favourite lol.

Such a pain that a market of this size has these issues. There unfortunately probably no easy solution to all this.

I maintain that the show is designed to be binged. The pacing is not for a week to week episodic release.

I was talking about your claim that Thor whooping all those people doesn't make him the butt of jokes.

I already told you before that that wasn't what I claimed. Now, you are being obtuse.

At this point, Zemo’s the best character in all of the MCU and none of y’all will convince me otherwise.
I can't disagree with this statement.

I really like Cap's corner of the MCU, but I'll have to disagree with the prepositions about Ragnarok (and the notion that Taika brought no creative effort to the project).

I never said Taika brought no effort. He clearly put his "everything needs to be funny" stamp on the movie.

The lack of effort came from Marvel, who eagerly lapped up every whacky idea Taika had, bcause they clearly thought it would instantly be the next Guardians.

It very clearly had a colonialism subtext that was present not only in Hela's plot but in the Sakaar one, too.

If by subtext you mean a subterranean cavern then you might be right.

Still, for those yet thinking the cooky kiwy can't pack a punch, I have a hunch we should wait for Love and Thunder, a movie he actually wrote, as far as we know (he didn't write Ragnarok).

His name might not be on Ragnarok's script, but it might as well be, given that a huge amount of the film was improv'd on set.

I'm pretty sure Taika will build upon his first film to deliver a deeper sequel.

I genuinely hope so. But I will remain sceptical until proven otherwise.

But I just don't get the reaction from some to him in Ragnarok, Infinity War and Endgame. For me, it is some of the best character work Marvel has done. And it seems that a lot of the issues people seem to have with it is it involves comedy and Thor doesn't just stand around one shoting everyone.

You're quite mistaken if you think my issue with Ragnarok Thor has anything to do with power levels or any of that nonsense. I don't care how powerful they make him. What I want is a characterisation that treats the character with respect.

Thor put on weight, thus it's the worst thing ever and he is walking joke. Even as the guy is you know, obviously going through some ****. His scene with his mother kills me in Endgame. It is a beautiful moment that means so much more then flooring a bunch of enemies with his awesome powers.

I wasn't actually talking about Endgame. And again, this has nothing to do with power levels. I wouldn't care if in the next movie Thor lifted the entire Earth with his pinky finger if we still get this idiotic man-child.

Episode 4 took a step up, but I re-watched episode 3 last night with family and my lord it was a slog. I don't think this will have the same re-wwtch value as much of the MCU, and definitely not WandaVision.

I was just saying that to a friend the other day, the episodes just don't benefit from being a week apart at all.

Also, while the first episode of TFATWS was enjoyable on its own, its well on its way to seeming redundant now. Like seriously, what was the point of that whole subplot of Bucky killing Yori's son? They had better not forget to revisit that.

He will confess to Yori for sure and he will reply: "I already know that and I forgive you" in episode 6.

Yeah I think it’s pretty obvious they are going to revisit the stuff with Yori. The show is written like a long movie; some stuff will get wrapped up towards the end.

I also hope Bucky circles back with that cute bartender and just comes clean with her about his past. It might freak her out, but ya know. It’s a world with alien attacks and people who disappeared for five years. She might be understanding.

Bucky deserves a little lovin'.

Although, random thought that just occurred to me, with Yori and the bartender girl not knowing who he is/was apparently....isn't Bucky famous? Like, wasn't his face plastered everywhere as the subject of a worldwide manhunt for The Winter Soldier after the UN bombing a few years ago? Don't people know who Bucky Barnes is, and that he was The Winter Soldier by now?

I also think the Flag Smashers are very meh. But I like the rest of the show very much. Mostly. I do feel like Sam is like....my 3rd or 4th most interesting character. Which isn't good. But I love Zemo and what they have done with Bucky I this show. I also like how they have baked in the various social themes into the show, especially through the prism of John Walker and how he is being used in the show. Very strong stuff.

Like I said before, it isn't Wandavision, but I accept this as a Captain America 4 essentially. Yes, it isn't Cap movie quality. But it doesn't have to be the best piece of art ever. Am I enjoying the show and do I like what it is? Yes, very much.

Tbh, I find Bucky much more compelling than Sam.

I agree, Bucky is more interesting. The show I think is raising a lot of issues, and that is good. But while I appreciate what they are going for with the plot line with his sister and the boat thematically and from a post blip world building stand point....I find myself not as invested in it as I feel I should be. So that would be one issue I have with the show. I am hoping Sam gets more moments to shine, like the one he had in this last episode when his skills as a counselor were actually useful. So I am not calling it a failure on that front just yet.
