Jurassic World - Part 4

People are seriously criticizing Pratt's performance in this based on....like 5 seconds of him in a trailer? How does the trailer tell us anything about Pratt?
I learned just as much about Star-Lord in the original GotG trailer. It tells us the character's demeanor and his role in the film.

No it doesn't. It tells what his demeanor is at that particular time. But that doesn't automatically mean that he'll be that way for the entire film.

I don't understand the "you can't form an opinion of a trailer because you haven't seen the whole movie" mentality here...

I just watched it again, and the trailer shows Pratt at different points in the film. Quite a few. And in all them, he is typical 80s man of action stoic. There is no indication that he is Star-Lord, Indy or Han Solo like.

... or an "Ian Malcom" type, to put it in JP terms.

Not that he has to be that, but its difficult to get a feel for who he is. I found Howard more interesting in the trailer than Pratt.

I was never expecting him to be like Ian Malcolm. I always assumed he'd be an action hero here. Just not so typical.

I didn't expect him to be a copy-paste of the Malcolm character either. Just a character who plays a bit more to Pratt's strengths... a bit more roguish.

Yeah, that is a very good way of putting it.

It's funny how some people can praise Pratt's performance from the trailer, but then criticize others for not liking it by saying "We barely saw anything" or something along those lines

I like Pratt's character from the trailer. He reminds me of Muldoon.

I will never say that. Never.

I like that it seems he's branching out. He's always been really comedic, but the few moments in GOTG i saw that he'd be good at drama too. Not saying this is a good movie to flex the drama muscles or win awards, but I like that he's trying something different

It's just another example of defensive fan logic.

You never hear them saying that to like-minded folks, even though what's good for the goose should be good for the gander. i.e. if someone can't say that the CG or the acting looks sub-par because it's unfinished, then the opposite shouldn't be said either, since what they're so pumped for could be removed or changed completely (once again, I'm looking at you, TASM 2).

The cycle seems to go thusly:

Fan #1: Trailer was awesome dude!
Fan #2: Hell yeah it was; can't wait to see it!
Fan #3: I know guys, the A, B, and C looked soooooooo amazing!

Fan #4: Ehh...that looks like crap.
Fan #5: I agree; I'll probably pass.
Fan #6: Yeah, the X, Y, and Z didn't look too interesting.

Fans 1, 2, and 3: WHAT! You trolls can't say that! You haven't seen the movie yet! That stuff you talked about isn't even finished! They've got about a billion days to fix everything up; it'll look perfect come release day, just you wait and see! Get outta here if you're not content to bow down and worship this magnificent work of art with the rest of us!

Repeat ad nauseum. An exaggeration to be sure, but what's interesting is that the first group is usually trying to propose that the second group is making presumptions, all while making a hell of a lot more themselves (A isn't finished, B will look better, etc.).

People need to realize that everyone understands that the movie isn't in theaters yet. Thanks for pointing out the obvious, but we get it. Everyone is simply giving their impressions on what we have in front of us here and now. Seems like fans are always content to twist that into a straw-man when they're told something that they don't want to hear.

Jurassic Park is my favorite movie, and I can't believe I'm the one taking up for folks who are apprehensive about the trailer.

I really hate to be this guy, but that trailer didnt make me all that confident in the film. Granted its 6 months away so Im not gonna judge this too harshly, but it just looks entirely too crisp and everything looks so...digital and artificial.

That's unfortunate folks see it that way. Trevorrow shot JW on 35mm and 65mm, with animatronics and models when necessary.

Some people make a very good point about the final CGI rendering looking better in the final film than the trailers. Case in point: The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug. Over several noticeable CGI shots in the trailer have been noticeably reworked and color timed differently in the final product.

The Hobbit movies, with their infamously unfinished CGI, are probably not a good example to use

DoS, like AUJ, are both loaded with bad CGI. Some great CGI, but also a lot of bad CGI. Which is the point by the way.

And you can shoot on any medium you want. If you don't do it correctly, it is gonna look bad. Skyfall was digital, and it looked far more film like and beautiful then anything I saw in this trailer.

I loved seeing the park as a live attraction. Someone really needs to make that with animatronic dinosaurs on some island. I'd go every 2 weeks.
