Avatar: The Way Of Water

I liked it better than the theatrical cut, he put at least 20 minutes back in. Alas, this version was only available on a 3 disc set I bought, you can't get it to stream as far as I know. I was hoping for a streaming version of an extended cut of Way of Water, just don't know if there will be one. I've loved every extended cut of Cameron's films that I've been made aware of :)
Nice. Are there often streaming versions of extended cuts? Not sure I've come across them often on streaming. I often prefer extended cuts too, especially for at home where you can take breaks whenever you want.

I honestly don't know what extended cuts are out there for streaming, all of mine are hard copies -- Aliens 2, T2, Abyss and Avitar. All were generous with extra footage.

The only ones I can think of from the top of my head are the Lord of the Rings extended cuts being on Max alongside the theatrical versions.

I'm curious as to why the extended version of the first Avatar isn't available. There were some significant scenes that added to it.

I know, right? I've checked and Amazon doesn't have the extended cut for streaming purchase. I've really been trying to move away from hard copies with new purchases.

I had no idea they had the extended cuts on there! Are they likely to be there for good? That is actually a big incentive to keep Max long term for me. Since the extended cuts came out, 90% of my LotR viewing (which is a lot given it's my favourite set of films) has been the Extended Cuts.

Trust me, the LOTR extended cuts are much better than the theatrical cuts and the only ones I watch. :D

I know lol. I've probably watched them a lot more than most. The theatricals feel "fluffy" and lightweight in comparison now. :beaming:

They've been on there for a while but I do remember they left the platform briefly a while back and you could only watch the theatrical versions.

They need to sort that out for good. Big asset to have and I would rewatch a lot for convenience, even on the go.

I want to say they've been on there and stayed there for a good two years now so maybe it's been resolved?

My husband watched the extended Fellowship cut just a few days ago. I just asked him after we had this conversation. :)

Wasn't there that rumour/report that the early cut of the second film was nine hours or something?

There have been rumours about a nine hour cut for the third movie, maybe that's what you're thinking about.

A longer cut doesn’t mean a better movie, especially if it’s already 3 hours

No but it's nice to see some gaps filled in, like the mystery of where the whole tribe went during the end battle and left the Sully family and the chief's daughter alone.

The extended cut of Apocalypse Now proves this very thing. What a bore.

Rewatched this tonight. Quaritch crushing his skull is one of the most metal things in a blockbuster. Crab mechs! Flying severed arm! The standoff at the end! Yeah, this is easily better than the first. Big Jim doesn't miss.

Avatar: The Way Of Water Dominates Nielsen Streaming Charts – Deadline
Audiences were eager to revisit Avatar: The Way Of Water when the smash hit sequel hit streaming.
The James Cameron film debuted on both Disney+ and Max on June 7, soaring to the top of Nielsen’s streaming rankings for the week of June 5 to June 11 and racking up an impressive 1.9B viewing minutes between the two services. According to Nielsen, the film was of particular interest to the younger crowd with 75% of viewers under 50 and 50% under 35.

Unlike the first one, I think the second one looks just as good and immersive in 2D. A combination of cgi that holds up even to the smallest scrutiny and James Cameron’s direction being even better and more assured this time around.

The first one is still decent, but you can easily see the stuff they prioritized and the stuff that was of secondary concern. Avatar 2 looks flawless across the board.

The Navi’s for example. The ones in the background often look like video games in Avatar. In Way if Water, even the most far away Navi seems to have received the five star treatment.
