Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Part 1

I'm a creature of habit too. I always go to that theater, unless it's an independent film with a limited release (in which case I go to a small art-house cinema near my apartment). And I see about 15-20 movies a year. It may not seem like much on an individual level, but I'm a customer that spends roughly $300 a year at that theater. Probably a hell of a lot more than that, since I rarely go to the movies alone and I often see certain movies more than one time. I am a very frequent patron.

So I told the manager that another cinema chain will be getting that money. I doubt he cared, but I felt the need to say it. I'll be damned to the deepest and darkest circle of hell before I pay one more cent to have that sort of experience ever again. My free time is mine to spend and to enjoy, and it's a credit to this movie's quality that the evening wasn't a complete disaster.

I rarely go to movie theaters now but had to see this film on opening night,My experience with X-Men DOFP was kinda annoying and bad but this time it was actually perfect,It was a 11:15 pm showing with a large group of audience but most were adults,2 hours of just pure enjoyment

I don't know if it's because I've seen a lot more movies in theaters this year, but 2014 so far has shown me that theater audiences are just getting worse and worse.

And yes, let's bring a baby to a movie theater packed with over a hundred strangers that could be carrying any number of diseases, to watch a violent blockbuster film that takes full advantage of it's sound system. At 10 o'clock at night.

Saw it again this morning. There is no laws about "no" on the wall. So to whoever was saying that, there was not.

Still superb film on second viewing.

You could feel the audience creeping to the edge of their seat when:

Caesar says: "Koba weaker."

Mine's been opposite. At the theaters I go to now, they always have a bunch of employees coming in and shutting people up. Actually I've been happy with my area, for years it was terrible, but now it seems theater owners are realizing it may be hurting sales. So at our theater, they don't mess around.

Saw Apes 2 this morning. Great sequel. Hail Caesar! Fox is doing a hell of a job with the X-Men and Apes franchises right now.

I hope the next one is titled War of the Planet of the Apes. :hrt:

I think its more accurate to give it a small bump without the previews. So Saturday might be something closer to $24-25M.

Hmm, well I can't find what Maleficent did on it's previews but including them it still managed a 6% bump on it's 1st Saturday. I culled it back to a 5% bump for my prediction and maybe there'll be no bump at all but I still think it'll at least remain even from one day to the next. It's not like the previews were huge after all, just $4.5M. Oh well, we'll see tomorrow. I just want this to top Maleficent's OW.

Another tense moment.

When Malcolm pulls the gun on Dreyfus

I knew Dreyfus and his men would think Malcolm was crazy for giving the good apes "more time". :hehe:

It was just extremely tense the way Malcolm casually grabs the gun and slowly points it at Dreyfus.

About 10-15 years ago my local theater switched over to armed rent-a-cops and it seems to have worked well for them.

I think it should be War for the Planet of the Apes

I'd like the inevitable meet up with the Taylor character in some distant sequel to be stretched out much longer than just 2000 years as it was in the original films. They're free to do so and they no longer have the budgetary restrictions that made them keep the Ape civilization primitive in the 1968 film so why not? Make it 10,000-20,000 years.

I'd also like in the interim period between Dawn and that sequel to have at least one film that is just about the apes and their civilization with nary a human character in it at all.

I hate when the theater is empty and the group of rowdy teens sit directly behind me.

I spend the rest of the time planning a course of action in case they get too loud, kick my seat too much, say something directed at me, etc.

Because of stuff like this I only go to the theater for a handful of franchise films (MCU, PotA, Star Wars, etc).

Midnight showings have always been the most positive experiences.

It's usually when I mix it up with a general audience crowd on Friday nights that there's issues. Weekends are typically fine too.

It's just something about those Friday nights...

Regarding theater experiences, I try to go on Saturday or Sunday mornings before the riff raff can show up later in the day. I live in the heart of the Bible Belt, so Sunday morning shows in particular are pretty much empty.

I'm glad I got to see Apes 2 on a large screen in 2D. The theater I went to has a screen that's around 70 feet wide and 40 feet tall. If a movie is released in 3D, the big screen usually has all showtimes in 3D.

Apes 2 is the first movie I can remember where they decided to split showtimes on the biggest screen. 10:30 AM, 4:40 PM, and 10:45 PM are 2D shows. 1:35 PM and 7:45 PM are 3D shows. Glad I was able to see it in 2D at 10:30 AM when the crowds were a lot smaller. It was a great experience all around. :)

Ooooohhh, I hate that as well. And it ain't just movie experiences. You could be sitting in a restaurant or a library or some other venue with plenty of space and some *****e will come in and want to pick a spot close by you. God, that drives me nuts. It's like they MUST be in close proximity to someone. I can't stand it. I usually make a noticeable show of getting the hell away from them in such cases but the theater one is the worst if they're gabby.

Maleficent made $4.2M in previews so it jumped around 25% on Saturday. However, I think being a May release and more family oriented factors into that.

Not only does it apply to theaters and other public places, it also applies to driving on the road. I've noticed a lot of people seem to need to be in a pack of cars at all times. They can't be isolated at all. It's some kind of psychological issue for them. I'd much rather be isolated while I drive. Lessens the potential for accidents with other vehicles.

This new series is planned as a trilogy right?,I'm guessing Cesar dies in the end of the next film and last scene jumps to hundreds or thousands of years into the future to show a glimpse of the planet truly belonging to the apes with all humans captured or hiding in fields like the original film.

Then a part 4 could start a new trilogy that reimagines the original films with Taylor arriving in the future,Next film after this one can make a reference to Rise where the news reports Taylor being lost in space

Is Taylor that important to this current series?

I think it's to lessen the likelihood someone will get pulled over by a cop.

Like a school of fish. :cwink:

The great thing here is that even if Caesar dies that doesn't mean Andy Serkis has to leave the franchise.
